Chapter 50 - 2#
Lin Fengyi ground his teeth in frustration.
“Again!”
This time he demanded it first.
Yan Heqing’s face was calm. He put down the water cup, picked up the controller, and turned to the screen.
This time, Lin Fengyi was no longer lackadaisical. He stared intently at the screen, his hands moving the controller rapidly.
Lin Fengxian was the first to die. He watched the battle with great interest, exclaiming from time to time.
Not to mention Lin Fengyi, Yan Heqing’s positioning didn’t look like a novice at all. Every time it seemed he was about to be taken out by Lin Fengyi, he would turn around and hide in a blind spot behind cover.
It was as if he deliberately exposed his whereabouts to lure Lin Fengyi into attacking and wasting his bullets.
This kind of operation had extremely high risks and rewards, testing the player’s skills even more.
Even Lin Fengyi would play steadily when encountering an expert, rarely daring to be so reckless.
Lin Fengxian looked at Lin Fengyi again and was stunned for a moment.
Lin Fengyi looked focused, his facial muscles tense. It was the first time he had seen him play a game so seriously.
Or perhaps, forced to be so serious?
Yan Heqing also stared intently at the screen.
Coming out of the game background, he found the key to the game from the introduction: positioning.
So in the first few rounds, he wasn’t busy dodging the opponent or getting familiar with the controls, but memorizing every hiding spot and supply point.
Having memorized the map points, he was also familiar enough with the controls.
It was simpler than he imagined.
Lin Fengyi’s skills were indeed showy.
But he had a fatal flaw: he had never lost, and he couldn’t afford to lose. Once he lost, he was eager to quickly kill him back, which instead exposed many flaws.
It was Yan Heqing’s first time playing. In terms of skills, he was far inferior to Lin Fengyi, but he had patience. He used the memorized map points to drag Lin Fengyi along. The more anxious Lin Fengyi became, the more flaws he revealed.
And he just needed to seize the key flaw—
A light flashed fleetingly in Yan Heqing’s eyes. He made a prompt decision and pressed the controller, descending from the sky from the hiding tree shadow, the gun pressed against the back of the unsuspecting person’s head.
Bang.
Ah!
Two sounds, and the character was headshot and fell to the ground in response.
Game over.
Three LCD TVs displayed simultaneously: Winner, Y.
Yan Heqing’s character ID.
The four-hour one-on-one battle ended.
“…” Lin Fengyi’s eyes were red.
At the same time, the door of the game room was pushed open, and Mother Lin poked her head in. “Children, dinner is ready!”
Before going downstairs, Yan Heqing took out his phone.
32 missed calls from Lu Muchi.
Lin Fengzhi still hadn’t returned for dinner. Everyone tacitly didn’t mention it. After dinner, Yan Heqing played two more games of chess with Father Lin and took his leave again.
Mother Lin pulled him and wouldn’t let him go. “We agreed you’d stay at home today. Besides, Fengzhi will definitely be back in a while.”
Lin Fengxian smiled and persuaded Mother Lin, “Heqing might have something to do. It’s in the same place, not far away. Are you afraid he won’t come next time?”
Yan Heqing explained politely, “I’m transferring majors next semester, so I have a lot of knowledge points to make up. I also need to get my driver’s license before school starts. After this busy period, I’ll come to see you when I have time.”
Mother Lin immediately shifted her attention and was happy for Yan Heqing. “The transfer was successful? That’s great!”
Father Lin and Lin Fengxian also appreciated Yan Heqing more and more. After talking for a while longer, Mother Lin finally agreed to let Yan Heqing go home and called Lin Fengxian to drive him home, as the driver was on holiday for the New Year.
“I’ll drive.” Suddenly, Lin Fengyi, who hadn’t spoken since finishing the game, spoke up. He walked straight to the entrance, took off his coat, and changed his shoes. “Big brother’s eyesight makes driving at night dangerous.”
Mother Lin had no objection. She originally thought Lin Fengyi wouldn’t want to drive someone home late at night, so she didn’t mention it. Now that Lin Fengyi offered, it couldn’t be better.
“Drive slowly on the road. Don’t run red lights.” Seeing them into the car, Mother Lin repeatedly exhorted.
Lin Fengyi’s ears were calloused. “Got it.”
Mother Lin went around to the passenger seat. The window was down. Mother Lin smiled and handed Yan Heqing a red envelope, saying first, “All three brothers have one. If you refuse, I’ll pull out those flower seedlings and return them to you.”
Yan Heqing’s eyes curved slightly, and he accepted the red envelope. “Thank you, Auntie.”
“Good boy!” Mother Lin patted the back of his hand and said again, “Come and play at home when you have time.”
Yan Heqing responded.
Mother Lin then reluctantly stepped back, watching the car drive out of the gate before returning to the house.
Inside the car, Lin Fengyi gripped the steering wheel tightly.
He wanted to ask if Yan Heqing really hadn’t played games before.
Could he be tricking him?
It was his first time losing a game, and also the first time being killed twice in a row by someone!
He opened his mouth several times, but couldn’t speak.
He was extremely depressed and reached out to turn on the music.
It was a rock song.
The air finally became less awkward. Lin Fengyi secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Suddenly, Yan Heqing spoke, “Stop at the intersection ahead.”
Lin Fengyi didn’t hear clearly. “What?”
“Stop at the intersection ahead.”
Lin Fengyi frowned. “What do you mean?”
Yan Heqing’s voice was calm. “You hate me, and I detest you. Riding in the same car is just for Auntie Lin to see.”
Lin Fengyi felt a breath stuck in his chest. He glanced at Yan Heqing, turned the steering wheel, and stopped abruptly at the intersection ahead.
Who cares about driving him!
Yan Heqing unbuckled his seatbelt. “Thank you.”
He opened the door, got out, and walked along the main road.
Lin Fengyi was stung by his “thank you” to the point of heart infarction. He slapped the steering wheel hard. “Damn it!”
A short while later, he looked up again, staring at the figure walking further and further away.
——
Yan Heqing walked to the main road.
After waiting for a while, he finally waited for a taxi.
After giving the address, Yan Heqing took out his phone.
It was ten-thirty.
His eyes flickered as he logged into WeChat.
Meanwhile, Lu Lin hadn’t gotten off work yet. The office was brightly lit, and there were piles of documents, but he didn’t process them.
He stared heavily at the Moments page.
The first Moment he posted had a row of likes from profile pictures.
Chu Ziyu even spammed the comments.
[Has our President Lu been hacked?]
[What is this? Flower? Lotus? Water lily?]
[Old Lu, is that really you???]
[Holy crap! Our Old Lu really posted a Moment????? Is it the end of the world tomorrow?]
[I have to take a screenshot to commemorate! More than 10 years, the first one! Comrades, the first one!!!!]
Xie Yunjie: […Chu Ziyu, don’t go crazy!]
But he couldn’t help it either. [The background is Old Lu’s office! When did Old Lu start raising succulents?]
Chu Ziyu replied to Xie Yunjie: [What are succulents?]
Xie Yunjie replied to Chu Ziyu: [Search it yourself.]
Chu Ziyu replied to Xie Yunjie: [Searched it! Is our President Lu starting to engage in environmental protection charity?]
…
Lu Lin didn’t reply.
A moment later, his fingertip touched the screen to exit the page, and at the same time, he found a red circle with a “1” popping up on it.
His Adam’s apple moved slightly. Lu Lin clicked on Moments again.
