Chapter 29 - 2#

Yan Heqing took out his work ID, then grabbed his schoolbag and opened the inner compartment.

When taking his ID photo, he had asked for a set of bareheaded photos as a backup. He took out the bareheaded photos; there were eight in total, four in the top row and four in the bottom row.

Yan Heqing took the scissors and carefully cut out one bareheaded photo. He then pulled the work ID out of the plastic cover, pasted the photo in the designated spot, and in the name field, he unscrewed the cap of his fountain pen and wrote three words in regular script that looked like printed text: Yan Heqing.

After filling out the work ID, Yan Heqing put it back into the plastic cover. Then he placed it on the table, took out his phone, and took a picture of the work ID.

[Tomorrow’s new job.]

Along with the picture and text, he posted a Moment visible only to Lu Lin.

Now he had Lin Fengzhi in his contacts.

Lin Fengzhi would post a Moment every day, taking pictures of scenery or food. He didn’t post yesterday, probably because he was quite shaken.

Yan Heqing wasn’t sure if Lu Lin went to room 2120 last night. He posted this Moment to test Lu Lin’s attitude towards him.

If Lu Lin was curious about him, he wouldn’t be unresponsive.

Last time he went to the welfare institute, the staff member who received him answered a phone call when he was leaving, saying that a company was sponsoring the welfare institute. Later, he recalled that the company should be the Lu Corporation.

Yan Heqing guessed that the Lu Corporation should be doing charity work.

Doing charity work, it’s impossible to go only once.

Lu Lin had a reason to appear tomorrow.

And for ordinary charity work, Lu Lin didn’t need to appear every time. If he appeared tomorrow, it meant that Lu Lin saw his Moment.

Yan Heqing put down his phone and gave himself the night off, no longer reviewing.

The final exams would start the day after tomorrow, and he was already prepared.

Rarely relaxing, Yan Heqing chose to have a good sleep. After taking a shower, he watered the succulents and went to bed.

It was only nine o’clock.

Lu Lin saw Yan Heqing’s Moment.

In the bareheaded photo with a blue background, the young man looked clean and fresh, with a slight upward curve at the corners of his mouth.

Lu Lin had only seen Yan Heqing take such an excellent ID photo.

Such a thin boy, he was the only one.

The back view from the banquet last night floated in his mind again.

Then Lu Lin put down his phone and picked up the landline to contact his assistant.

The call was connected quickly.

“Which day is the gift delivery to Rainbow Bridge Welfare Institute scheduled for?”

Contacting him on Sunday, the assistant thought something big had happened. Hearing it was about the welfare institute, he breathed a sigh of relief and immediately replied: “Next Saturday.”

“Move it up to tomorrow. Send me the gift list now.”

Lu Lin hung up the phone.

The assistant was shocked. Lu Lin actually cared about such a small matter as giving gifts. This was the first time!

It wasn’t that Lu Lin didn’t care about small matters, but the Lu Group had hundreds of thousands of employees, and the projects launched every day were worth tens of billions. If he had to look over every big and small matter, Lu Lin wouldn’t be able to finish processing them even if he didn’t rest 24 hours a day.

Lu Lin only handled major issues. Other minor matters were naturally handled by those who were paid to do so.

The assistant quickly sent the list over.

Lu Lin opened the email and downloaded the gift list to browse carefully. They were all conventional stationery, books, toys, clothes, milk powder, snacks, and diapers, which the welfare institute needed most.

Browsing to the last page, Lu Lin called his assistant again, “Add a Cube of Light.”

The assistant knew about the Cube of Light. Lu Lin had one on his desk. It was a creative translucent ornament.

But unlike the ordinary Cube of Light, Lu Lin’s ornament was made of pure crystal.

It was said to cost hundreds of thousands.

The assistant didn’t understand why Lu Lin wanted to add an ornament to give to the welfare institute, but he just did what the boss ordered.

The assistant added the Cube of Light to the list. He thought of something and immediately asked, “Are you going tomorrow? Should we increase the number of media arrangements?”

“Cancel the media.” Lu Lin raised his hand to check the time, “Depart at nine tomorrow morning.”

The implication was that he was going.

The assistant replied, “I’ll arrange it immediately!”

Yan Heqing slept very satisfyingly. He weighed himself before eating breakfast.

117.

Still on the thin side, but steadily increasing.

Yan Heqing ate two extra buns for breakfast.

Taking the subway and then walking, it was only 7:30 when he arrived at Rainbow Bridge Welfare Institute.

The guard wasn’t there, and the gate was open.

Yan Heqing entered the welfare institute. The weather wasn’t very good, a bit gloomy. The dormitory building where the children lived was lit up; they were up too.

Yan Heqing went to help.

Some paralyzed children couldn’t take care of themselves and needed help getting dressed.

The paralyzed children lived on the fifth floor.

As soon as he arrived on the fifth floor, there was a faint smell of mold. The corridor was sealed tight with a very fine iron mesh. Even if there was sun, it was hard to see.

There were no classrooms, just two large open rooms, one for boys and one for girls. The doors were all wide open, and light shone out.

The first open room housed eight little boys, all paralyzed or with Down syndrome, unable to take care of themselves.

Aunt Zhang, whom he met last time, was deftly helping one of the children change a diaper.

Actually, these children were eight or nine years old, but no one took care of them at night. If they didn’t wear diapers, they would leak all over the bed.

This job was tiring and dirty. Several volunteers had come before, but they ran away and vomited after changing one, never coming to the fifth floor again.

Aunt Zhang thought Yan Heqing would be the same. It was human nature, and she could understand if young people couldn’t do it.

However, she never expected that Yan Heqing not only did it well but was also very serious.

When it came to the little girl next door, he even closed the door and waited outside. Only after Aunt Zhang finished changing did he come in and quietly clean up the smelly mess.

Aunt Zhang saw it all. On the way to help in the cafeteria, she took the initiative to ask Yan Heqing, “Xiao Yan, do you have younger brothers or sisters at home? You’re so good at taking care of people.”

Yan Heqing smiled and didn’t reply.

Aunt Zhang understood. She patted Yan Heqing’s arm as comfort. When they arrived at the cafeteria, Aunt Zhang specially arranged for Yan Heqing to distribute breakfast. This young man was exhausted just now.

Aunt Zhang dug out an unwanted white coat for Yan Heqing.

Sometimes, it’s the person who makes the clothes look good. When Yan Heqing put on the white coat, he had a strong scholarly air. Being in the cafeteria, he looked like he was doing experiments in a laboratory.

At the window, Yan Heqing skillfully distributed breakfast.

The dishes were quite rich: porridge, fried dough sticks, meat buns, and an apple for each child.

The apples were small and ugly, but they were crisp and sweet.

The children were very curious when they saw Yan Heqing. They didn’t leave after getting their breakfast, but gathered around the window, standing on tiptoe to look at him.

“Brother, you are so good-looking. Brother, will you come to see us often?” voices rose one after another.

At the same time, three large trucks drove into Rainbow Bridge Welfare Institute, followed closely by a black Bugatti.

The director had been waiting at the gate early. The black Bugatti parked in the temporary parking space on the playground. Seeing that it was not the assistant but Lu Lin who got out, the director immediately went up to shake hands and said enthusiastically: “President Lu, you haven’t had breakfast yet, have you? Let’s go, our cafeteria is serving breakfast.”

He pointed to a one-story building not far away, “It’s right there, very close!”

Lu Lin shook hands briefly with the director, his dark eyes scanning the surroundings. Not seeing anyone, he withdrew his gaze and asked: “Aren’t there volunteers today?”

The director was stunned. Volunteers, what volunteers? He was a little confused, but still replied: “At this time, they should be helping in the cafeteria.”

Lu Lin immediately lifted his foot and walked towards the cafeteria.
