Chapter 2#
“Cough, cough—”
The night breeze, carrying the sound of coughing and muffled groans, drifted into Mo Xuzhi’s ears, successfully snapping him back to reality.
He turned his head and found the sound was coming from a small alley.
Mo Xuzhi glanced inside.
Then he saw a black figure.
The person stood deep in the alley, surrounded by several men lying on the ground, constantly writhing and curled into balls.
The youth standing in the center of the alley still had some dark red bloodstains on him, and his shining eyes were exceptionally prominent in the dim alley.
With spots of blood on his white hoodie, Ji Baiwen stepped onto the blood-stained cement ground and walked towards Mo Xuzhi step by step.
The situation here looked troublesome.
Mo Xuzhi quickly reached this conclusion and simultaneously took a step back.
But he was still a beat slower than the youth.
Thump—
A large mass of black shadow fell over him. Before Mo Xuzhi could react, his shoulder grew heavy, nearly causing him to fall backward.
Ji Baiwen rested his head on his shoulder. Slightly messy hair rubbed against his neck, causing a patch of redness on Mo Xuzhi’s neck.
Not only that, Ji Baiwen pressed his entire body weight onto him, forcing Mo Xuzhi to take a few steps back until he could barely stand by leaning against the wall.
“Friend, let’s make a deal. Can you get up first?”
Mo Xuzhi found that his wound seemed to be in bad shape.
He was an injured person after all; supporting this man was like carrying a large puppy, nearly causing blood to spurt from his wound under the pressure.
“…”
Ji Baiwen still didn’t speak.
Enduring the pain, Mo Xuzhi finally reached out a hand and pushed him.
Still no response.
Mo Xuzhi struggled to pull out his phone from his pocket, turned on the flashlight, and aimed it at Ji Baiwen.
Ji Baiwen’s head was still pressing on his shoulder, so even with the flashlight on, he could only see from Ji Baiwen’s chest down.
That was enough.
Mo Xuzhi finally knew why he couldn’t call this person to wake up.
He saw two knife wounds on Ji Baiwen: one near the stomach, which looked shallow, and another on the thigh, which appeared deeper.
Good heavens, it turned out he had fainted.
A drop of cold sweat slid down his pale cheek.
Mo Xuzhi felt that if he stood there any longer, he would also faint along with this person.
Moving his body, he found the right direction and slowly slid down along the base of the wall.
He sat safely on the ground. The youth, who had originally rested his head on his shoulder, also slowly slid down with his momentum, finally lying beside Mo Xuzhi, his hoodie stained with dust and sewage.
Mo Xuzhi didn’t mind.
Allowing the guy to rest his head on his stomach was his greatest tenderness; how could he care if the clothes were dirty?
He reached out his hand, wanting to call the police and also call an ambulance for himself and the person beside him.
—Good heavens, his wound really had reopened, and the sensation was as sharp and stimulating as being stabbed all over again.
The pain from the wound made Mo Xuzhi lose his strength. His arm lifted and fell, and ultimately could only tremble uncontrollably in the air, completely unable to make a call.
“…”
He looked down at the youth lying quietly in his embrace.
With the light from the phone, Mo Xuzhi saw the youth’s appearance clearly.
This person was quite good-looking, with red lips and white teeth, and features deeper than the average person’s. He looked to be at an age between youth and adulthood, possessing the unique greenness of that age.
So he was still a kid.
“Sorry, buddy.”
Mo Xuzhi no longer struggled to lift his hand but directly placed it on Ji Baiwen’s head. The position was a bit awkward, so he moved his arm to find a comfortable spot before starting to call the police and emergency services one by one.
“…”
Ji Baiwen opened his eyes slightly.
His vision was still blurry, and he couldn’t see anything clearly. But he could feel that his head was in a warm place, and someone was gently stroking his hair.
Darkness descended, and his head felt heavy. Ji Baiwen wanted to speak but couldn’t make any sound.
Someone rested their head on his.
Ji Baiwen heard a soft voice coming from where they touched:
“…I’ve come to accompany you.”
Feeling the warmth coming from above his head, his vision gradually dimmed, and Ji Baiwen fainted again. After Mo Xuzhi finished his last sentence, he also fainted.
Heaven spares no one.
When fate arrives, it really can’t be stopped.
Thanks to this friend, he had to accompany him in fainting.
Ambulances and police cars soon arrived outside the alley.
By the time the police’s flashlight beams hit them, Mo Xuzhi and Ji Baiwen had completely fainted.
Mo Xuzhi’s head was resting on Ji Baiwen’s head, his side profile peaceful. Although he still carried a sickly paleness, it didn’t detract at all; instead, it added a touch of sickly beauty.
The police also saw the other people lying sprawled in the alley.
The scene was a bit eerie.
Without time to think much, the police quickly completed on-site sampling, while doctors simultaneously sent Mo Xuzhi and Ji Baiwen onto ambulances. The rest of the people lying on the ground were taken to the hospital in police cars.
Hospital, Ward
“Hiss—”
Mo Xuzhi clutched his neck, unable to help but hiss in pain.
How long had he rested on that person’s head?
“Damn…”
As soon as Mo Xuzhi reached out his hand, he found that the wound on his chest was also being pulled. This pain came faster and more intensely than the soreness in his neck. He didn’t dare make any more movements, freezing his body in mid-air, not daring to move an inch.
“The patient in Bed 3 is awake!”
A nurse passed by the door, peeked inside, and saw Mo Xuzhi, who should have been lying down, frozen as if trying to get up. She was startled, then turned to look at the doctor standing not far away and called out.
Xue Feng, sitting on the bench outside, heard the nurse’s voice and stood up. The bodyguard and assistant followed his steps as they swarmed into the ward.
“Sir, sir, we still need to examine the patient. Please cooperate.”
The nurse struggled to squeeze past the bodyguards and assistants in the ward and finally reached the bedside. She put down the medical record and looked back, finding those people still standing where they were.
The bodyguard looked straight ahead, and the assistant remained diligently by Xue Feng’s side without moving a step, as if completely ignoring the nurse.
“Sir, this…”
The nurse looked at the frowning Xue Feng.
Xue Feng glanced once more at the deathly pale Mo Xuzhi and finally took a step back.
Seeing Xue Feng back off, the bodyguards and assistants also followed suit, moving back a few steps and finally clearing a space for the doctor and nurse.
Xue Feng’s face was now as dark as if he had just come out of a mine.
He had just received a call from the hospital today saying that Mo Xuzhi had run away and his whereabouts were unknown. Not long after, he heard he had been sent to the hospital by ambulance.
He didn’t know why Mo Xuzhi was making such a scene, nor did he know the point of these antics. He just felt irritable right now.
Very irritable.
He couldn’t say exactly why; he just felt his heart beating wildly, as if something was about to burst forth, only to be forcibly held back by an invisible membrane.
But Mo Xuzhi was destined not to feel Xue Feng’s irritability.
He was currently freezing his body, letting the doctor and nurse check his vitals without moving an inch. He didn’t even dare to turn his head slightly to see who was standing in the room.
Who the hell would dare move?
The needle in the nurse’s hand looked like a Monkey King’s staff, constantly swaying near his neck as if it could prick him at any moment.
The room was silent except for the sounds of medical equipment and the conversation between the doctor and nurse.
Mo Xuzhi lay on the bed, letting the nurse unbutton his clothes one by one.
Under the large blue and white striped hospital gown was pale skin, with prominent collarbones that glowed under the lights.
While unbuttoning, the nurse accidentally touched Mo Xuzhi’s skin.
She only felt it was smooth to the touch, with a hint of warmth—warm and comfortable, making her reluctant to let go.
But to avoid being thought of as a pervert, the nurse forcibly stopped her hand from wanting to touch again.
After undoing four buttons, the nurse pulled the gown to the side, revealing the wound wrapped in gauze. She reached out and gently removed the gauze to observe the condition of the wound.
A hideous wound abruptly appeared before everyone’s eyes.
That dark red wound lay across his snowy chest like a stout centipede lying in the snow, constantly stinging everyone’s eyes.
This was the wound created by the knife Mo Xuzhi had blocked for Xue Feng.
This was the first time Xue Feng had seen it.
He had seen it clearly at the time, knowing the knife was very sharp and seeing it plunge into Mo Xuzhi’s body.
But he hadn’t expected the wound to look so terrifying.
Seeing that wound, which should have appeared on his own body, made Xue Feng’s eyes swell.
“Sir, I’m going to disinfect and re-bandage your wound now. It might hurt a bit, just bear with it and it’ll pass.”
The doctor took various simple medical instruments from the side and extended a ruthless iron hand towards Mo Xuzhi.
“Mm…”
The newly grown pink flesh was forced to separate from the dark red areas. That sharp pain traveled along the nerves to the brain and was then well-transmitted to the effectors by the pain nerves.
Mo Xuzhi couldn’t help but groan, and cold sweat instantly slid down his forehead.
Seeing Mo Xuzhi’s tightly furrowed brows, Xue Feng hesitated for a moment before finally sitting in the chair opposite the direction of Mo Xuzhi’s head.
Sitting this way, Mo Xuzhi could see clearly who was sitting across from him even without lifting his head.
Mo Xuzhi still had cold sweat on his head. He glanced at Xue Feng and then withdrew his gaze.
“…”
Xue Feng looked down at Mo Xuzhi, his eyes dark.
