Chapter 10#
Mo Xuzhi followed the maid to the kitchen.
He was familiar with this kitchen. He had lived in the Xue family’s old residence for a while, and besides his room, he came to the kitchen most often. He noticed the changes here at a glance.
The changes weren’t big, just some things were replaced.
The things he used before had been replaced with new tableware of different styles. At a glance, they all radiated the glow of money.
The maid took out a cinnabar wooden box from the cabinet.
The wooden box wasn’t large, but the patterns were complex and grand, looking very valuable.
“Mr. Mo, these things were given to you by the master.”
The maid opened the lid of the wooden box, revealing the bowls and plates inside.
The ceramic bowls were dazzling and worth a lot.
Mo Xuzhi understood.
It was just as he thought before.
These were the things he used when he lived in the old residence.
Now that he was leaving, Xue Feng wanted him to pack up these things as well to make room for the upcoming Shen Le.
These things were valuable, and since he happened to “like” money, Xue Feng probably thought this was a win-win solution.
The lid was closed again. Mo Xuzhi put one hand in his pocket and took the wooden box.
The wooden box swung a few times in the maid’s widened eyes, and several muffled thuds were clearly audible in the kitchen.
The maid tremblingly led Mo Xuzhi, who was swinging the wooden box in one hand, back to the living room.
Assistant Li saw the wooden box in the youth’s hand, pushed his glasses, and only said:
“Is everything sorted?”
“Yes.”
Assistant Li took the wooden box from Mo Xuzhi’s hand.
“Let’s go.”
Mo Xuzhi slowly followed behind Assistant Li.
The car started again, and the villa disappeared behind them.
Assistant Li drove Mo Xuzhi to the entrance of the high-rise duplex apartment complex Xue Feng had bought for him.
Just as he was about to drive into the complex, Mo Xuzhi asked him to stop the car at the roadside.
It was a long way from the high-rise building. Assistant Li helped Mo Xuzhi pull the luggage out of the car, wanting to see him into the complex.
Mo Xuzhi shook his head. Just then, a call came in. Assistant Li held the suitcase in one hand and answered the phone with the other, his brow gradually furrowing.
In the end, he still left.
Mo Xuzhi breathed a sigh of relief.
This place was near the city center, and a black Lincoln parked here attracted plenty of attention. Now that Assistant Li was gone, there were fewer stares.
He pulled his baseball cap lower, carried his suitcase into the complex, and looked at the identical buildings around him, feeling slightly lost.
He forgot where the house Xue Feng bought was.
He flipped through his phone a few times and finally found the transfer message from his few chat records with Xue Feng.
After putting the luggage and the wooden box in a room piled with various boxes, Mo Xuzhi closed the door, patted the dust off himself, turned around, and went downstairs.
Standing back at the roadside where he got off, Mo Xuzhi looked at the passing crowd, standing still with his hands in his pockets, suddenly feeling a bit out of place.
Someone passed by and bumped his shoulder while avoiding him. Mo Xuzhi took a few steps back and stood by an empty flower bed.
The advertisement on the CBD building opposite finished, followed by an interview clip. Many people stopped in front of the building to look up.
It was an interview about the newly crowned music king, Du Minsheng.
The man on the big screen had shed his youthful greenness, but his arrogance remained unabated. Every raise of an eyebrow and glance of an eye exuded a sense of ruthlessness.
The interviewer beside him was introducing his new song, “Corner Singer,” talking excitedly about the impressive sales and various awards it had won.
Mo Xuzhi withdrew his gaze.
—Looks a bit familiar.
He had just met him at a bar a few days ago.
He was in a hurry then and didn’t ask how he was doing lately.
But there was no need to ask now.
He had met Du Minsheng in a small bar a few years ago. Now, years later, he was still the same, while the other person had changed beyond recognition and become a proper singer.
“Do you like Du Minsheng too?”
A voice came from the side. Mo Xuzhi turned and saw a young girl standing there. She had just put down her phone from taking pictures, her eyes sparkling.
This was a perfect spot to capture a full view of the CBD building screen. She had been filming for a while and saw the person standing next to her constantly looking at the screen, so she thought he was also a fan of Du Minsheng and asked casually.
Mo Xuzhi pulled his baseball cap lower, stray hairs slipping from the brim to cover part of his eyes.
“Yes.”
The youth who quietly drummed in that small bar was cold and silent, but indeed quite cute.
The girl was stunned when she heard his voice, then her eyes curved as if she wanted to say something more. Mo Xuzhi nodded slightly to her and turned to blend into the crowd.
The figure of the youth in the white hoodie disappeared into the passing crowd.
Mo Xuzhi didn’t want to say much to the girl.
In that situation, saying he didn’t like Du Minsheng would be troublesome. He wasn’t a fan of Du Minsheng, and he didn’t like him the same way she did. If they talked too much, he would be exposed.
The girl watched Mo Xuzhi leave, then sighed, rubbed her hands, and logged onto Weibo from the corner to start operating.
小甜橙 (Little Sweet Orange): #DuMinsheng# #CornerSinger#
Saw Brother Du’s interview in the X commercial district today, and even met a brother with super beautiful eyes!
“Corner” is the GOAT! [Image] [Image]
The two attached photos were mainly of the CBD building, with only the second one showing the side profile of the youth mostly covered by the brim of his baseball cap.
Just as the girl finished editing the text and was about to post, a notification popped up on her phone.
Reflexively tapping it, the interface switched seamlessly before she could react.
It was a trending topic about someone meeting the famous “black star” Mo Xuzhi at the hospital.
It even came with pictures.
The girl squinted for a long time, her fingers trembling like she had Parkinson’s.
White hoodie, casual pants, and a blue medical mask. The only difference was the black baseball cap on his head.
And they were both good-looking.
She just… ???
The interview on the screen continued.
The reporter asked several questions in succession, but Du Minsheng’s expression didn’t change, his answers were strictly formulaic.
“Does the song title ‘Corner Singer’ have any special meaning?”
Unlike before, Du Minsheng didn’t answer immediately this time.
His eyelashes drooped slightly, and his expression relaxed a bit, as if he had fallen into some memory.
“It was written for someone.”
The reporter’s spirit was lifted.
There’s something here!
“A long time ago, when I was still in a bar playing drums by feeling and wasting my life, he taught me how to sing.”
“He sang very well, but never in front of others. He would always curl up in a corner after the show to teach me how to keep beat and read scores.”
Du Minsheng stopped talking. The reporter waited for a while before unconsciously asking:
“And then?”
“And then he disappeared.”
“Many people say he’s mediocre, but I know he sings well and is very outstanding. Teaching me to sing in that place that didn’t suit him might have just been a whim, or he might have long forgotten that someone like me existed.”
“He probably won’t even listen to this song,”
Du Minsheng smiled, “But what does it matter?”
“I just want more people to know that in a corner, there is a very outstanding person.”
“He shouldn’t be destined for mediocrity, so I will work hard to become outstanding.”
