I don’t know what I did wrong in my life to be humiliated in public like this, and for something that doesn’t exist at all.
I only remember the water sliding down my face, blurring my vision, and my clothes slowly getting soaked.
After splashing the water, Cheng Yi clapped his hands and warned me: “If you pester my brother again, this is just the beginning.”
After speaking, he swaggered away. The whole process took less than a minute.
I never thought this kind of thing would happen to me. My brain completely short-circuited, and I stood there dumbfounded, at a loss.
I heard the voices of people around me starting to discuss:
“Drama of the year!”
“So much information.”
“Damn, he’s gay.”
“Isn’t this a plot from a movie?”
…
Then, I saw onlookers taking out their phones and pointing them at me. Out of stress reaction, I quickly covered my face with my hands.
It might have been just a few seconds, but for me, it felt as long as a century.
Then a coat covered my head, wrapping around my face, blocking out all the light, phones, and noisy sounds.
I was too familiar with the smell of this coat; it was Pei Hao’s.
He took me out of the hot pot restaurant in three steps, saying angrily as he walked, “Stop filming.”
It was the end of the year, and the wind outside was blowing hard. My clothes were soaked with water. But at that time, I didn’t feel cold; I was still thinking about what just happened.
So Cheng Yi deliberately chose such a crowded place today, intending to humiliate me in public.
He said Jin Yu likes me, how is that possible? Liking someone means contacting them every few weeks, and every contact is about business?
I am very sure and certain that Jin Yu doesn’t like me.
As for what kind of brain circuit Cheng Yi has, I don’t understand either.
Pei Hao pulled me into his car, turned on the heater, and wiped my head and body with his scarf.
“Your clothes are soaked, take them off and change into mine,” Pei Hao asked while wiping my head, “Who is that idiot who splashed you?”
I replied expressionlessly, “Not changing.” Then I didn’t speak again.
Seeing my bad state, Pei Hao didn’t ask further. He took off my coat and continued to wipe my inner clothes with the scarf.
“Alright, not changing,” he nodded helplessly and said, “Let’s go home first.”
“Go to my home.” My attitude was firm.
Pei Hao froze for half a second, then started the car and said: “Okay, go to your home.”
Sitting in the car, I finally felt cold. Although the heater was blowing inside, the clothes sticking to my body were icy cold.
Pei Hao wrapped me in his coat and comforted me softly: “No traffic jam today, bear with it, we’ll be there soon.”
“Thank you for today, but why did you appear here?” I looked puzzled.
Pei Hao said nonchalantly: “Passing by, just happened to run into it.”
I don’t believe you.
“Passing by?” I looked at him with scrutinizing eyes.
How could it be so coincidental? Cheng Yi just finished splashing me with water a minute ago, and he came in.
“Okay, because I followed you here today,” Pei Hao replied in a low voice without confidence, “You don’t want to talk to me. I’m afraid looking for you often will make you angrier. But I want to see you, just looking at you from afar is enough, won’t disturb you.”
“So you stalked me again?” I felt a headache. Hearing that two people stalked me in one day, just thinking about it makes me irritable.
Pei Hao hurriedly defended himself anxiously: “No, what do you mean I stalked you again? I used to wait for you downstairs at your house or at the company gate, never stalked.”
Seeing him getting a bit emotional and the car swerving, for my own safety, I didn’t refute anymore.
“I’ve been too busy with work recently to split myself. Only today I have time to see you. I really just wanted to look at you a few more times from afar,” Pei Hao’s tone actually carried a bit of grievance, “I was just about to leave, and that idiot suddenly splashed water all over you.”
I thought carefully, it seems the last time we met I slapped him. I thought he disappeared suddenly because of this.
Then he’d better be busier with work, so he won’t have time to harass me.
“I don’t like being followed.” I looked at him with disgust.
“Okay, I promise there won’t be a next time,” Pei Hao nodded, smiling to comfort me: “In the future, I will only drive downstairs to your house and look at you silently.”
Me: …
Whatever, suit yourself. Anyway, you won’t listen to what I say, and even if you listen, you won’t necessarily do it.
Not appearing in front of me is progress.
Rows of neon lights flashed outside the car window. In the cold winter month, there were office workers rushing outside the car, and vendors still setting up stalls for business. Looking at the various forms of life, I suddenly felt I wasn’t that miserable. Whose life is easy? Life is unsatisfactory nine times out of ten.
Everyone is living very hard, and then becoming ordinary people.
The heater in the car was sufficient. I slowly felt sleepy and fell asleep at some point.
In my dream, I saw my mom. She was sitting on the hospital bed in a patient gown. Unfortunately, in the dream, I knew she had passed away.
Mom looked at me gently and comforted: “Xiaoxi, live happily always. Whatever decision you make, Mom supports you.”
I stood in front of the hospital bed, tears gushing out in an instant. I really wanted to keep her, tell her not to go.
I wanted to tell her that since she left, I haven’t had this feeling of peace of mind for a long time, too long…
I wanted to tell her that I’m a bit tired recently, suffered some grievances…
But she gradually blurred in front of me. I tried desperately to reach out but couldn’t grab anything, only watching helplessly as she disappeared in front of me.
“Mom! Mom!” I suddenly woke up from the dream, tears still on my face.
Pei Hao grabbed my hand, hugged me, and slowly patted my back with the other hand. He comforted softly: “Xiaoxi, you were dreaming. We are home, don’t be sad.”
I don’t know why, but I felt his voice was a bit choked.
I broke free from his embrace, touched the tear stains on my face, wiped them dry, and calmed my emotions.
Pei Hao reached out in mid-air wanting to wipe my tear stains, but suddenly stopped, murmuring as if lost his soul: “Blame me, blame me, for not taking good care of you.”
I looked up into his eyes, which seemed to contain all kinds of emotions. I saw sadness, pity, regret, and unabashed love.
Maybe my emotions were too fragile that day, I felt like I was about to be sucked in.
So I quickly opened the car door and fled back home.
Too many things happened throughout the day, and my mind was messy. After going back, I ate something casually, turned on the game and played until 3 am, finally falling asleep.
Really hope to wake up and find everything was just a dream!
