Pei Hao didn’t appear again for several days. A project I participated in at the company was nearing its end, and I was extremely busy. I worked overtime until past 10 pm every day that week, so I didn’t have time to think about him.

There were many points in work that needed to be discussed with the team, and I had to be on site, so I had to take a taxi to and from work every day. After breakfast, I told my colleague to hurry back to the company and do my part of the product presentation. Just then Pei Hao arrived, in a hurry, buying a bunch of food.

My colleague sighed: “I saw it last time, you brothers have such a good relationship.”

I smiled awkwardly and waved to the pig teammate, signaling him to hurry back to the company.

After my colleague left, Pei Hao sat by my bed, reached out to touch my forehead, frowned, and asked: “Why is it so hot?”

When he got close to me, I realized he looked very decadent. A circle of stubble grew densely, his face was pale, and a strong smell of alcohol came over as soon as he reached out. Not a bit of his usual high-spirited look.

I don’t know when I really fell asleep. At noon, the IV drip ended, and Pei Hao wanted to feed me lunch.

While I was eating, he answered a phone call. The voice in the receiver sounded like Brother Egg.

“I’m at the hospital. I’m with Xiaoxi.” Pei Hao said, a faint smile appearing on his lips involuntarily.

The other side seemed to scold him a few sentences. Pei Hao didn’t mind: “You come over and help me watch Xiaoxi for a while. I’m going home to get some things.”

“Still you are useful. One call from you and he cleaned up and came over happily.” Brother Egg looked at me pretending to be relaxed.

“I didn’t call him.” I swallowed a breath, not knowing how to explain to Brother Egg.

“That doesn’t matter. Anyway, he only listens to you now.” Brother Egg was thoughtful. After a while, he looked at me seriously and said: “I’ve known Pei Hao for so many years, never seen him look like neither human nor ghost like this. Before, I really didn’t know what feelings Pei Hao had for you, but now I understand, he really loves you.”

I understand Brother Egg’s feeling of wanting to speak for Pei Hao. After all, being good friends for so many years, it’s natural to help say a few good words.

Maybe Pei Hao really doesn’t want to break up with me. Being with someone for five years, every habit and detail in life has more or less a shadow of the other person. Suddenly separating, anyone would be unaccustomed.
