Chapter 2 - 2#

Wei Hong’s expression looked as if he had swallowed a watermelon whole.

“Next time, take your phone with you even when you go to the toilet, you useless adult.”

Li Meng easily defeated the top star of the entertainment industry in the living room, and leisurely went back to his room to wait for dinner.

After dinner, Li Meng took a shower. When he came out, the phone in the living room rang. It was an unknown number.

“Hello?”

“Hello, is this Li Meng?” The voice on the other end was very soft. “Can I speak to President Jin?”

Li Meng asked warily, “Who are you?”

“Tell President Jin I’m Zhao Xue, he knows.”

“He doesn’t know—what do you want?”

The person on the other end choked for a moment. “Oh, it’s actually about the company, nothing major. Maybe I’ll call back later.”

Li Meng smiled. “Company matters should definitely be told to me. I am, after all, the standard crown prince. Zhao Xue, right? Which department? Who gave you our home number?”

Miss Zhao Xue was obviously shocked by this legendary fifteen-year-old, innocent, ignorant, and extravagant young master. It took her a while to barely say, “It’s nothing big, just that President Jin didn’t come to work all day, and I… we were all worried.”

“Miss,” Li Meng said, “although I haven’t met you, I’m setting a rule for you now as the owner of seven percent of the company’s shares: unless the company goes bankrupt, don’t call our home number next time. If I find out again, you’re fired.”

Silence on the other end of the phone.

Li Meng hung up the phone gracefully.

“…Who was that?” Probably awakened by the voice, Jin Yan slowly got up and yawned. He sat on the sofa with red eyes, his shirt worth thousands of yuan hanging on him like a rag, somehow managing to look like a destitute loser.

“Wrong number.” Li Meng raised his eyebrows at his father and sneered, “—Whoever doesn’t divorce is a grandson, hmm?”

Jin Yan was almost K.O.’d by his own son, but he had no energy to get angry.

“Uncle Wei cooked a few dishes and put them in the fridge before he left. If you want to eat, take them out and microwave them yourself. Do you still want to drink?”

Jin Yan shook his head sluggishly.

“Drink a little more, maybe if you keep drinking, Jiang Qin will come back.”

“…Student Li Xiaomeng, who did you inherit this sharp tongue from?!”

“A sharp tongue is better than domestic violence. I didn’t hit anyone, didn’t kick anyone, and certainly didn’t have a young girl come to the door saying she was pregnant with my child…”

Li Meng shook his head and circled the living room, admiring his father’s exasperated face from all angles.

“Student Li Xiaomeng,” Jin Yan said feebly, “I understand your fear and pain of losing your mother, but please calm down. If I really get divorced, you’ll become a child of a single-parent family, understand?!”

Li Meng said, “I can also anger you to death, and then take your forty percent shares to live with Jiang Qin. Single parent is single parent, at least I’ll be a rich and powerful second-generation single-parent kid!”

Jin Yan: “…”

Jin Yan felt that life was simply unlivable!

“Jiang Qin cooks for me, does my laundry, checks my homework, and picks me up from school every day. He is a standard virtuous wife and loving mother who can go out to the hall and into the kitchen. Why should I hang on your crooked neck tree? Why shouldn’t I take your money and your company and run towards a beautiful new life? Don’t you think so, Dad?”

Jin Yan was extremely depressed and roared, “First! Checking your homework is ancient history from years ago! You are already in the third year of high school, who the hell needs to check your homework, Student Li Xiaomeng!”

Li Meng put on a “hmph hmph hmph” face, exactly like Jin Yan at certain times.

“Second! Your school uniforms and wool sweaters are all sent to the dry cleaners, okay? They come for door-to-door service once a week, and Jiang Qin is only responsible for signing the bill! You call that washing your clothes?!”

“Hmph hmph hmph…”

“Third! Have you forgotten the back view of your father washing dishes every day after meals? Did you learn Zhu Ziqing’s ‘The Sight of Father’s Back’ in elementary school for nothing?! How come I only see you enthusiastically praising the mom who cooks for you every day in your essays, but never see you mention a word about the dad who washes dishes for you every day?!”

“Hmph hmph hmph…”

Jin Yan roared, “This is rebellion! Hmph again and watch out for your pocket money next month! Let me tell you, Jiang Qin used to say that when I hmphed, it made him want to hit someone. Now I know what that impulse is about!”

Li Meng was about to hmph again, but suddenly thought that Jiang Qin wasn’t home, and if he really got beaten up, no one would come to stop the fight, so he immediately shut up.

Jin Yan sat angrily for a long time, muttering to himself, “This can’t just end like this.”

He picked up his phone, his thumb swiping across the screen, his face gloomy, wondering what he was thinking. After a while, he suddenly made up his mind, stood up and said, “I’m going out. You go to bed early, don’t skip school tomorrow morning.”

“Where… where are you going?”

Jin Yan was like a wounded wolf, saying, “I’m not afraid of divorce, I’m not afraid of anything! But I must find out why the divorce is happening!”
