Chapter 4#

The Little Waste Tames the Gloomy Demon King (04)

The air was thick with suffocating silence, as if time had frozen for a moment.

Mo Yan raised a hand to rub his brow, a flicker of barely perceptible irritation passing through his narrow golden eyes. He paced slowly to the mirror, studying the reflection within, and asked in a deep voice.

“How does this robe look on me?”

Yan Xi lifted his head slightly, crawling a few steps closer on his knees, and replied with reverence.

“Your Majesty is naturally peerless. This black-gold serpent-patterned robe accentuates your upright bearing and extraordinary grace—cold yet dignified, elegant yet commanding. The Demon Queen will surely be captivated, her soul utterly enchanted.”

As he spoke, his eyelids remained lowered, inwardly speculating on the demon king’s intentions.

Not only had he personally arranged the bridal procession, but now he was fussing over the wedding robes—it seemed this bride was, after all, somewhat different in the king’s eyes.

Mo Yan studied his reflection for a moment, nodded slightly, and softened his tone. “With time pressing, this will do for now. As for you…”

His gaze dropped to Yan Xi, who still knelt on the ground, his voice deep and unfathomable. “I’ll spare you this once.”

Yan Xi, as if granted a great reprieve, quickly kowtowed. “Thank you for your mercy, Your Majesty.”

“Come with me to greet the bride.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Before the palace gate, the bridal procession advanced slowly.

All around was silent, save for the small demons like rabbits and foxes who silently scattered flower petals—a flurry of blossoms drifting through the pitch-black horde of beasts, adding a strange, soft beauty to the solemn scene.

Mo Yan approached unhurriedly, stopping beside the python, his low voice carrying authority.

“Why isn’t the music playing?”

The python quickly bowed, his tone tinged with grievance.

“Reporting to Your Majesty, it seems the Demon Queen… does not care for music.”

Mo Yan listened, then waved his hand dismissively, and the python retreated several steps as if pardoned.

He strode forward with long legs, heading straight for the bridal sedan, then reached a hand inside. The black bear spirit nearby immediately shouted in a thick Henan accent.

“Please—invite the Demon Queen to descend from the sedan!”

Inside the sedan, Ling Yan silently curled his lips and climbed down.

He caught sight of the hand extended in, so he lightly placed his own hand on it, allowing himself to be led out.

The next second, he suddenly felt his body lighten—

He was lifted horizontally into Mo Yan’s arms.

The cover still obscured his vision, so Ling Yan could only vaguely make out the sharp jawline of the other. He was too lazy to struggle—why not let someone else carry him?

He reached out, naturally looping his arms around Mo Yan’s neck, and leaned lazily against his chest. As Mo Yan walked steadily, a familiar, cool scent drifted into Ling Yan’s nose—it was exactly the same smell as that black cat’s.

Ling Yan couldn’t help leaning closer to Mo Yan’s neck and took a deep breath, then asked with a soft laugh. “You smell so good… what is that scent?”

Warm breath gently brushed against Mo Yan’s neck, and a strange heat stirred in his body—ice for ten thousand years. His Adam’s apple rolled involuntarily, and a dark surge of desire flashed deep in his golden eyes.

“This king does not know.”

Ling Yan’s lips curled, a playful mood rising, and he chuckled. “Then it must be Your Majesty’s unique natural fragrance.”

Ling Xiaoqi suddenly screamed in his mind: 【Holy crap! Bro, the darkening value dropped! Down by one point, now 98! The demon king actually likes being teased?! Bro, keep teasing him!】

Ling Yan looked at Mo Yan, but the red veil still blocked his view. Lifting his head slightly, he could only see the other’s tightly pressed thin lips. He asked with a smile, “Why doesn’t Your Majesty speak? Do you not like me?”

“No.”

Mo Yan denied it immediately, but his arms tightened involuntarily. He carried Ling Yan steadily toward the main hall, repeating in a low voice.

“This king truly does not know.”

Ling Yan rested safely in his embrace, his slender legs swaying gently with each step, laughter tinged with cunning. “Then it must be Your Majesty’s natural body scent.”

“……”

Mo Yan was silent for a moment, then finally replied indifferently.

“If you say so, then it is.”

Ling Xiaoqi screamed excitedly in Ling Yan’s mind again.

【Wowwww! Bro, dropped another point! 97! I have to go back to the Time Leap Bureau and show off to those failures!】

Ling Yan didn’t stop him, only reminded him with a light laugh.

【Be careful, don’t get beaten up.】

Ling Xiaoqi said smugly, 【Hmph, who would dare hit me? I’ve got my bro backing me up!】

Mo Yan held the person in his arms steadily and walked all the way to the main hall. Upon arrival, he gently set Ling Yan down, then shot a glance at Yan Xi.

Yan Xi immediately understood, faced the crowd of demons in the hall, and announced loudly.

“Revere the sun and moon, revere heaven and earth—”

This procedure was specially arranged by the demon king, saying that in the human realm, a wedding required three bows: one to heaven and earth, one to parents, and one between the couple. The demon race had no such customs, so simply paying respects to the sun, moon, heaven, and earth would suffice.

In his opinion, even that was unnecessary—after all, legend had it that their demon king was an ancient being as old as heaven and earth itself.

After speaking, Yan Xi respectfully presented the two with wine cups.

The two took them slowly, and Mo Yan’s voice was deep and cold. “Pour it on the ground.”

“Oh.”

Ling Yan followed suit and poured the wine onto the ground with him. After two cups of wine were spilled, the ritual was considered complete.

No sooner had they finished than Yan Xi hurriedly announced again.

“Seal the blood pact—”

As soon as these words were spoken, the hall full of goblins and mountain monsters collectively sucked in a breath of cold air, prostrating themselves on the ground, urgently advising.

“Please, Your Majesty, reconsider!”

Although the blood pact was the highest rite in demon marriage ceremonies, this Demon Queen was ultimately human, moreover a person sent by the human race—likely a spy.

If something went wrong after the pact was formed, what then? Once the blood pact was sealed, it allowed tracking of the other party at any time.

Ling Yan: “???”

What’s happening? How come?

Mo Yan swept his cold gaze over the demons kneeling throughout the hall, slightly frowned, and spoke decisively. “This king’s mind is made up. No further persuasion.”

With that, his fingertips suddenly lengthened, sharp as blades, and he gently pricked his own fingertip, squeezing out a drop of blood. He then took Ling Yan’s hand and said in a low voice, “Don’t be afraid.”

Ling Yan softly replied, “Mm.”

Mo Yan lightly cut Ling Yan’s fingertip with his nail, also drawing a drop of blood.

Two crimson droplets floated in the air, drawn to each other, slowly merging, until they formed a round blood-red amber.

At the same time, an intricate ancient red formation appeared beneath their feet, light swirling as the fused blood bead suddenly split and rapidly sank into their hearts.

The blood pact was complete.

The moment the blood entered his body, Ling Yan trembled slightly, feeling a tremor deep in his very soul.

He couldn’t help but look up and ask, “What is this?”

Mo Yan leaned down, his low voice carrying an indescribable tenderness. “Don’t be afraid. It’s just a demon marriage rite. It won’t harm you.”

Ling Yan furrowed his brows but ultimately said nothing more.

The next moment, he felt his body lighten again—

Mo Yan had lifted him horizontally.

In an instant, the two teleported directly into the bedchamber of the royal palace. Mo Yan gently laid him on the bed draped in soft satin, and said in a low voice, “Rest here for now. This king…”

Before he could finish, Ling Yan suddenly reached out and grabbed his sleeve, raising an eyebrow. “Where are you going? Aren’t we going to consummate the marriage?”
