Chapter 19#
The Little Waste Tames the Sinister Demon King (19)
In the vast bedchamber, candlelight flickered, the silence so profound a pin drop could be heard.
Mo Yan watched Ling Xiaoqi with keen interest, his golden eyes like deep abysses, scrutinizing him from head to toe. He suddenly raised a hand, and a wisp of golden demonic energy slithered out like a gossamer thread, silently penetrating Ling Xiaoqi’s entire body.
Ling Xiaoqi was so startled he immediately bit down on his little pacifier, not daring to move a muscle.
What did brother-in-law intend to do?
Could it be…
Was he going to destroy him?
Mo Yan concentrated for a moment, retracted his demonic energy, stood still, and nodded slightly, a hint of amusement in his tone: “Neither human nor demon, yet something in between. Quite intriguing.”
Ling Xiaoqi: “…”
This brother-in-law was far too formidable.
He instinctively looked toward Ling Yan beside him, a trace of helplessness in his eyes. Ling Yan glanced at him indifferently and said calmly, “Go back first.”
“Farewell, you two!”
Ling Xiaoqi, as if granted a reprieve, quickly responded.
The next second, a faint white light flashed, and his figure had already vanished from the hall.
Only a wisp of an almost imperceptible aura slowly dissipated.
Inside the bedchamber, candlelight wavered, reflecting Mo Yan’s slightly furrowed brow. His handsome face was filled with displeasure, and his golden eyes sank heavily as he looked at Ling Yan, asking, “He can’t leave your body?”
Ling Yan lowered his gaze in thought, his long lashes trembling slightly as he murmured, “Something like that.”
After all—
He’d never heard of a system existing independently of its host.
Hearing this, Mo Yan’s expression turned even darker. An inexplicable restlessness surged in his heart, even his heartbeat becoming erratic and uncomfortable. He pressed coldly, “Why can’t he leave your body? No matter—I have my ways to get him out.”
Ling Xiaoqi: [……]
His life was in danger!
He wanted to say something to Ling Yan, but feared Mo Yan would detect it, and ultimately could only remain silent.
Afraid to speak.
Afraid of dying even faster.
Ling Yan let out a silent sigh, slowly stepped before Mo Yan, and suddenly raised his slender calf to lightly kick him. A playful smile curled at his lips: “What? Seeing someone sharing a body with me—are you jealous?”
Mo Yan’s brows knit tightly. He bit his lower lip unconsciously and retorted stiffly, “I never partake of human-world fare, and I certainly don’t get jealous.”
“…”
Ling Yan couldn’t help but roll his eyes and muttered under his breath.
“Such a snake brain.”
Mo Yan, upon hearing this, stepped closer slowly, leaning down slightly. Their distance suddenly closed, breaths nearly mingling. He asked in a low, deep voice, “And what of a snake brain?”
“Small.”
“My head isn’t small at all.”
“…”
Ling Yan’s mind immediately conjured the image of Mo Yan’s original form.
That enormous serpent head could coil across an entire courtyard—not merely large, but colossal.
He instinctively stepped back, his gaze sweeping up and down Mo Yan. Seeming to think of something, he suddenly curled his lips and said with deep implication, “True—none of your heads are small.”
Mo Yan’s lips curved into a roguish smile, a flash of pride in his golden eyes: “You know it well.”
“…”
Ling Yan felt his legs go weak, barely able to stand.
But Mo Yan didn’t let go of the earlier topic. He pressed closer again and pursued, “Why can’t your younger brother leave your body? What would happen if he did?”
“…”
There was no end to this.
Ling Yan lifted his gaze to Mo Yan, lazily stretched out both arms, and softly uttered a single word.
“Carry me.”
Mo Yan stared at him fixedly, naturally sensing that the other didn’t wish to continue this subject. He frowned slightly, yet obediently bent down and lifted him horizontally.
No matter.
There would be plenty of time.
Sooner or later, he would get that thing out of Yan Yan’s body.
Mo Yan teleported with Ling Yan in his arms to the dining hall, where Yan Xi and Shuang Ling were already waiting in attendance. Seeing the two suddenly appear, they quickly bowed respectfully: “Your Majesty.”
“Hm?”
Mo Yan cast a cold glance, letting out only a single frosty syllable.
Yan Xi immediately caught on and hurriedly added,
“Your Majesty, the Queen.”
Mo Yan withdrew his gaze, sat down in the main seat with the person still in his arms, and said softly to the one in his embrace.
“Eat. They’re all your favorites.”
Ling Yan shifted slightly in his arms, feeling the firm, powerful legs beneath him, and raised an eyebrow. “Just like this?”
Mo Yan nodded: “Yes, just like this.”
With that, he paused briefly, leaned close to Ling Yan’s ear, and added in a low voice, “Yan Yan, don’t forget—my breeding season isn’t over yet.”
“…”
Lecherous snake.
Ling Yan was always indolent and carefree. With a ready-made “snake-flesh cushion” available, he was happy to take it easy, sitting casually on the other’s legs as he ate slowly.
Watching this scene from the side, Shuang Ling couldn’t help but frown slightly.
He had been away tracking the demon realm’s corrupted spirits during the wedding and had not been present. Today was his first time seeing this Demon Queen. The other’s posture was languid, showing no fear at all, not to mention how improper it was to sit on the king’s lap like this.
Quite audacious.
After quite a while, Ling Yan finally finished his meal at a leisurely pace.
Shuang Ling was about to step forward when he saw Mo Yan embrace the person in his arms and ask with a low laugh, “After taking the spirit herbs, you should be able to abstain from food. Why are you still eating so much?”
Ling Yan raised an eyebrow and retorted without flinching.
“Greedy. Got a problem with that?”
“Not at all.”
Mo Yan replied with a smile, his tone full of indulgence.
Ling Yan leaned lazily back in his arms and commanded like issuing an order.
“Get me a bowl of sweet soup.”
Seeing this, Yan Xi habitually stepped forward—previously, when the demon king was away, he had been the one taking care of the queen’s daily needs. He was about to speak: “I’ll do it.”
“No need. I’ll do it.”
Mo Yan cut him off, personally taking the jade bowl, ladling a bowl of sweet soup for the person in his arms, and gently setting it before him. “Drink up.”
Ling Yan took the soup spoon and obediently lowered his head to drink.
Seeing the king and queen caught in their tender moment, seemingly with no intention of stopping anytime soon, Shuang Ling nevertheless stepped forward, bowed, and reported solemnly.
“Your Majesty, I have an important matter to report.”
Seeing this, Yan Xi quickly leaned close to his ear and whispered in a low voice, “Why rush? Can’t you wait?”
Couldn’t he see the two were in the midst of their sweet romance?
But Shuang Ling acted as if he hadn’t heard, maintaining his bowing posture, unmoving.
Ling Yan was sipping his sweet soup in small mouthfuls, not lifting his head.
As if utterly indifferent to everything around him.
Behind him, Mo Yan gently stroked the person’s jet-black hair, running his fingers through it again and again, savoring the silky smooth texture, almost unable to stop.
While playing with the strands, he said nonchalantly.
“It’s fine. Speak.”
Shuang Ling slowly straightened up, his gaze sweeping over Ling Yan, who was quietly drinking his soup.
A hint of hesitation appeared on his face, as if he wanted to say something but stopped.
Mo Yan frowned slightly, his voice deepening with an undeniable chill: “Speak.”
Shuang Ling’s body stiffened, and he had no choice but to grit his teeth and report.
“Previously, Your Majesty ordered me to investigate the matter of the spirits turning dark. I have now made some progress. Following the trail, I discovered that the source of these spirits’ mutation seems to be linked to subordinates of the former Demon King.”
The fingers stroking the hair suddenly paused.
Mo Yan slowly raised his golden eyes, their gaze sharp as blades, his voice abruptly turning icy.
“Zhu Feng isn’t dead?”
