Chapter 14#

The Little Weakling Tames the Sinister Demon King (14)

“Ah??”

Yan Xi was stunned for a moment, even unconsciously opening his mouth wide. Only when he met Ling Yan’s amused gaze did he snap back to reality, quickly replying, “…Yes.”

Then, resigned, he wrote that line in the air. Demonic energy swirled at his fingertips, and the words quietly dissolved.

After sending the letter, Yan Xi lowered his head in silence, continuing to turn the roasting meat, looking utterly dutiful. Before long, a faint blue light flickered in the air, and a clear line of text emerged.

Ling Yan immediately leaned in, his eyes sparkling with curiosity, pressing for more.

“What did he say back?”

Yan Xi glanced at it, sighed inwardly, and reported honestly, “The king said… ‘I miss you.’”

Ling Yan immediately rose from his couch, sat down right next to Yan Xi, and commanded with great interest.

“Ask him again—how much does he miss me?”

The corner of Yan Xi’s mouth twitched, but he dared not disobey, so he complied.

He really was busy enough.

Here he was, the great demon commander, not only grilling meat for the demon queen but also serving as a messenger. The workload was truly overwhelming.

Where was Shuang Ling?

Why wasn’t he back yet? Come help him…

Just as he was muttering to himself, a faint blue glow appeared once more in the air—the demon king’s reply had arrived on schedule. Yan Xi looked at the text and twitched again, his voice low. “The king says… ‘I miss you so, so much.’”

Hearing this, Ling Yan’s smile deepened, and he continued with keen interest.

“Then ask him—‘So, so much’? How much is that?”

“…?”

Yan Xi resignedly raised his hand and wrote again.

The next second, a blue light flashed once more.

Yan Xi stared at the reply materializing in the air, his face turning redder and redder, a deep flush spreading from his ears to his neck, as if he were about to steam.

Ling Yan watched him leisurely, raising an eyebrow with amusement. “What did your great demon king say now?”

“…?”

Yan Xi’s lips moved, and finally, he let out a pitiful pout. His voice dropped. “Demon Queen… this subordinate, this subordinate can’t say it.”

But Ling Yan didn’t mind. He lazily picked up a slice of freshly grilled meat, dipped it in sauce, wrapped it neatly in lettuce, popped it into his mouth, and said vaguely, “What’s there to not say? If he dares to send it, you should dare to read it.”

“…?”

Someone save him!

He was still an innocent young ox!

Yan Xi looked at his demon queen, his lips trembling for a long time, before finally closing his eyes in resignation, as if bracing himself to say something difficult. “The king says… he misses you so much he wants to come back immediately, and then…”

“And then…”

“And then…”

He kept stammering “and then” without spitting out the rest. Ling Yan had almost finished a whole platter of grilled meat by the time he shot Yan Xi a sidelong glance, teasing, “And then what? Are the next words burning your mouth?”

Yan Xi’s eyes flew open, and he nodded vigorously. “Burning!”

Ling Yan: “…”

If only he didn’t know the demon script, he would have read it himself. The more this dumb ox acted like this, the more it piqued his curiosity.

Ling Yan’s tone was calm but brooked no refusal.

“Spit it out. You have to say it sooner or later; the sooner you say it, the sooner it’s over.”

Yan Xi’s whole face flushed bright red. He kept his eyes tightly shut, as if reciting some forbidden incantation, and blurted out quickly, “The king says that after he finishes gathering the spirit herbs… he wants to immediately enter your body, he wants to dual cultivate with you!”

“…?”

That’s it?

All that fuss over nothing.

Ling Yan let out a light laugh, a hint of sly mischief flickering in his tea-colored eyes. He said to Yan Xi, “Then ask him—are you in a hurry?”

“…?”

Not again.

Still going?

Yan Xi silently wailed inside but could only resign himself to sending another message.

A flash of blue light came and went. He looked at the demon king’s reply and answered honestly.

“Urgent.”

Ling Yan’s smile grew wider. “Then how urgent?”

“…?”

The working ox’s messenger duties resumed, and the grilling was temporarily set aside.

The blue light appeared once more. Yan Xi glanced at it and dutifully relayed, “Very urgent. The king says… if you ask him how urgent, then it’s as previously stated—he wants…”

His voice grew softer and softer, almost mumbling, “…to immediately enter your body.”

“…?”

Truly a perverted snake through and through.

Just then, Ling Xiaoqi returned, just in time to witness this scene. She couldn’t help but comment, 【Is this the demon realm’s version of WeChat chat?】

Ling Yan replied calmly, 【Not really. More like a telephone relay from the seventies. See, they even come with a little ox operator.】

【…】

What the hell is a little ox operator?

Ling Yan yawned lazily and asked casually, 【How was your boasting?】

Ling Xiaoqi chuckled, her tone smug. 【Great! Absolutely amazing! One system even dared to say I photoshopped, so I gave it a beating.】

【Pretty tough.】

【Of course! I’m following big bro!】

Ling Yan stretched his body and was about to get up from his seat when he noticed Yan Xi staring at him expectantly. He raised an eyebrow and asked, “What do you want to say?”

Yan Xi pointed to the still-glowing text in the air and whispered a reminder.

“This… aren’t you going to reply?”

Ling Yan swung his legs carelessly and said flatly, “No reply. I’m sleepy. I’m going to take a nap.”

“Very well.”

Yan Xi quickly sent off one final reply and dismissed the messaging spell.

Just then, a procession of demon realm servants filed in carrying various trays. Each held fresh, precious fruits, abundant and fragrant.

Ling Yan’s gaze swept over them and landed on a plate of bright red strawberries—he’d eaten a bit too much grilled meat and needed something to cut the grease.

He called out, “You, bring the strawberries over.”

The servant stepped forward, bowing respectfully.

“Demon Queen.”

Ling Yan hummed casually, picked up a strawberry, and popped it into his mouth.

Just as he reached for a second one, the servant’s fingers brushed lightly, seemingly intentionally, against the back of his hand, quickly tracing a single character.

Ling Yan’s movement paused almost imperceptibly, then he continued eating the strawberries as if nothing had happened. The servant stood by with lowered eyes, still holding the fruit tray.

He glanced at Yan Xi and ordered, “Yan Xi, the mountain spring water you fetched last time was really sweet. I’m craving some now. Go get some.”

Yan Xi hesitated. “Demon Queen, this subordinate could have another demon…”

Before he could finish, Ling Yan cut him off. “No, I want you to go. They’re not as fast as you. You’ll bring the water back the quickest.”

“…?”

Yan Xi still seemed reluctant.

The demon queen was so “fragile”—what if some malicious demon tried to harm him?

Ling Yan clicked his tongue in impatience. “Go on. The whole palace is surrounded by barriers. It’s fine.”

Yan Xi hesitated a few seconds, then finally replied, “Yes. I’ll be right back.”

Once Yan Xi’s figure had completely disappeared outside the hall, Ling Yan slowly turned his gaze to the servants standing with lowered heads in the courtyard. His tone was calm but brooked no argument. “All of you, withdraw.”

“Yes.”

The demons bowed and retreated, except for the servant holding the strawberries. Ling Yan glanced at him and instructed, “You, bring the strawberries into the bedchamber.”

“Yes.”

One human and one demon walked one after the other toward the depths of the bedchamber.

The doors closed softly behind them, sealing off the outside world. As soon as they entered the inner chamber, the servant raised a hand and cast an invisible barrier around them both.

Then, the demon servant’s form dissipated like a phantom, collapsing to the ground, replaced by a human youth who appeared silently.

He looked at Ling Yan, a tender smile rippling in his eyes, and called softly.

“Yanyan.”
