Chapter 15#

The Beta Lieutenant Colonel Who Sacrificed Himself for His Country#

Countdown to the final stage of the Queen’s evolution: six hours remaining.

Carlo felt uneasy. Something big was definitely about to happen. His sixth sense had always been reliable—last time he’d felt this way was when his father died.

Carlo began recalling his conversation with Andrew from a few days ago. Over the past few days, whenever emotions like frustration, despair, or resentment came flooding in, Carlo would replay that conversation to save himself from the brink of despair.

That day, Andrew had said: “When Wind Thunder carries out the assassination mission against the Queen, I’ll bring a team member whose build is similar to yours to swap identities with you. You’ll take his place on the mission. This is your best chance to prove yourself. As long as you accomplish something great on the mission, the Commander will definitely see you in a new light and let you stay.”

Carlo was lost in thought when the door to the confinement room swung open. Walking in was Andrew himself, with a person slung over his shoulder whose face was impossible to make out.

“Change clothes with him, then I’ll take you out.” He set the person down on the bed, then turned to face the doorway.

Carlo changed clothes with practiced speed, then pulled the blanket over the person lying in bed. He suddenly felt something brush swiftly across the back of his neck. When he turned around, he only saw Andrew’s hand withdrawing from his shoulder.

“A bit of dirt.” Andrew smiled faintly. “Do well on the mission later. I believe you can do it.”

Carlo nodded, blushing. Andrew was always so gentle—nothing like Hewitt, who, though he took good care of him, was always so rough around the edges. What was even more infuriating was that even when the two of them were alone together, it was always “Lena this, Lena that.”

Even though Lieutenant Lena always seemed indifferent toward Hewitt, every time Hewitt saw Lena, he’d bound over like a big dog fawning over its master. Ah, maybe it’s not very nice of me to think of Hewitt that way. Carlo stuck his tongue out privately in his mind.

But even so, Hewitt was the only one who made Carlo’s heart flutter and made him feel a sense of reliance. After all, Lieutenant Lena was just a Beta—they were just good friends, right? If an Omega had to marry an Alpha, then he would only choose Hewitt. Carlo had secretly thought this more than once.

Countdown to the final stage of the Queen’s evolution: five hours remaining.

“What is going on? What the hell is Wind Thunder doing?”

“An Omega actually snuck into Wind Thunder?”

“On such an important mission? This is literally playing with the fate of humanity!”

“Thorough investigation! There must be some dirty business behind this!”

“I bet there’s some conspiracy behind all of this!”

“Do you think there’s some conspiracy behind all of this!”
