Chapter 90#
A Tremendous Grievance#
It was unclear whether Jiang Yunhan had come here to sleep or if he was a primary schooler on a spring field trip.
He lay on the other half of the bed, staring blatantly at Jian Yunchen.
Jian Yunchen’s breathing was shallow and his eyes were closed. To him, letting Jiang Yunhan in was already the height of benevolence; he really wasn’t in the mood for a midnight heart-to-heart.
Their relationship wasn’t supposed to be like that.
However, Jiang Yunhan’s gaze was simply too burning, making it impossible for him to even pretend to be asleep.
Jian Yunchen closed his eyes and frowned, asking impatiently, “What are you looking at?”
There was a long silence.
Jiang Yunhan’s voice rang out softly.
“Xiao Chen, we look so much alike.”
Jian Yunchen opened his eyes and met those eyes that were shimmering faintly in the dim light.
He tilted his head back and let out a cold sneer. “We’re identical twins, of course we look alike.”
“There are still some places that are different.”
Jian Yunchen’s gaze paused, falling on Jiang Yunhan’s serious face. His eyes gradually turned icy.
Of course they were different.
Before he could speak, Jiang Yunhan continued.
“The corners of your eyes turn up a bit, your eye color is deeper, and when you smile… it’s very different from me.”
The coldness in Jian Yunchen’s eyes slowly faded, and he let out a hum.
“What’s the difference?”
Jiang Yunhan blinked. Moonlight leaked through the gaps in the curtains and fell across Jiang Yunhan’s profile, etching his earnest expression clearly into the depths of Jian Yunchen’s eyes.
“When you smile, you look very beautiful.”
Jian Yunchen: “…”
He didn’t take the words to heart and turned his body over, completely cutting off Jiang Yunhan’s line of sight.
A long time passed, and just as he thought Jiang Yunhan had fallen asleep, the other’s voice rang out again from behind him.
“Xiao Chen, for tonight… thank you.”
The emotion contained in these words was so heavy that Jian Yunchen’s spine slowly stiffened.
He turned around. Jiang Yunhan was still in his original position, propped up on his upper body, watching him quietly.
Jian Yunchen truly couldn’t understand his train of thought:
“You’re thanking me?!”
Jiang Yunhan lowered his eyes and nodded. “Yes… Xiao Chen—”
Jian Yunchen suddenly propped himself up, a fierce look on his face. He glared at Jiang Yunhan and growled:
“Are you insane? You’re thanking me? I was the one who schemed against you this time to make you lose. Didn’t you already guess? I was the one who incited Yan Yi to get Yan Junxing to hold up the goods, which caused you to be punished by Jiang Sheng! And now you’re thanking me?”
Jian Yunchen’s gaze grew colder and colder, the smile at the corner of his mouth becoming more and more mocking.
“Idiot! Are you seriously thanking the culprit right now?!”
Jiang Yunhan was stunned for a moment by the shouting. He looked at Jian Yunchen and slowly frowned in confusion.
“The one who locked me up was Dad. Why should I blame that on you?”
“But the one who rescued me and took me in was you. Why can’t I thank you?”
Jian Yunchen was suddenly choked up.
He looked into Jiang Yunhan’s eyes, and it was only then that Jian Yunchen realized Jiang Yunhan wasn’t lying. His eye color was lighter—amber pupils that were clear enough to reveal his sincerity.
Jian Yunchen opened his mouth, then closed it again. The emotions that had just risen in his chest felt as if they had been extinguished by a bucket of water, leaving only a small wisp of white mist drifting.
Jian Yunchen turned back around and stopped looking at him, saying in a cold voice, “Suit yourself.”
The sound of rustling came from behind him. Jiang Yunhan leaned in a bit closer and whispered in his ear.
“Xiao Chen, can I ask you a few questions?”
Jian Yunchen didn’t even open his eyes. He had been tired enough today and really had no strength left to deal with Jiang Yunhan.
He gave a casual “mm.”
Jian Yunchen originally thought Jiang Yunhan would ask about the reasons for his targeting him, or how he had instigated Yan Yi.
But to his surprise, the question Jiang Yunhan asked was:
“Xiao Chen, what kind of person was Mom?”
Jian Yunchen’s heart skipped a heavy beat. He opened his eyes. In the dead of night, everything was so silent that Jian Yunchen could even clearly hear his own heartbeat.
Their breathing slowly intertwined. Just as Jiang Yunhan thought Jian Yunchen wouldn’t answer:
“You’d better not get curious about her.”
“You’ll regret it.”
Jian Yunchen’s voice was airy, but hearing these two sentences, Jiang Yunhan felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
“Go to sleep. If you make any more noise, I’ll throw you out.”
Jiang Yunhan shut his mouth.
Just past ten o’clock, Jian Yunchen propped his cheek up and glanced at the man sitting opposite him.
“You’re late.”
Jian Yunchen’s voice betrayed no emotion.
Qin Zheng looked up and swept a glance over him. He was wearing a dark gray suit, his collar fastened meticulously, his features carrying his usual coldness and arrogance. “I only came because you said it was related to Xiao Han.”
Looking at Qin Zheng’s cold face, Jian Yunchen couldn’t help the corners of his mouth turning up.
Since that last time on the cruise ship, the relationship between Qin Zheng and Jiang Yunhan had fallen into a deep freeze. Jiang Yunhan looked easy-going on the outside, but in reality, once he made up his mind, he wouldn’t look back; he was extremely stubborn.
After returning, he had unilaterally ended all relations with Qin Zheng and blacklisted every form of contact.
Qin Zheng had tried waiting for him at the company, but Jiang Yunhan didn’t leave him the slightest opportunity.
After all this time, Qin Zheng hadn’t even managed to see Jiang Yunhan’s face.
Jian Yunchen raised his eyebrows playfully, his tone exaggerated. “You probably don’t know yet, but my brother has suffered a tremendous grievance lately.”
The teasing tone made Qin Zheng unable to stop himself from frowning, but upon hearing the content of the words, his gaze froze and fell upon that face that was identical to Jiang Yunhan’s.
He pressed his lips down. “What happened?”
Jian Yunchen made a “tsk tsk” sound, his voice carrying a hint of pity.
“There are rumors… that my brother is together with Qin Mu.”
“Impossible.” Qin Zheng denied it outright.
His eyes held an unshielded disdain. “How could Xiao Han take an interest in someone like Qin Mu?”
Jian Yunchen sneered.
“Yan Yi believed the rumors and thought it was Jiang Yunhan who seduced Qin Mu. She rushed straight to the company and, in front of everyone, gave my brother a slap.”
“Tsk tsk,” he said softly. “That scene… I can still see it clearly even now.”
Qin Zheng’s gaze suddenly darkened. He stared at Jian Yunchen, his eyes growing increasingly dissatisfied.
“Did you come here just to tell me this?”
“Of course not.”
Jian Yunchen smiled and denied it. “If it were just that, would I need to contact you personally?”
“After this happened, it would have been one thing if my brother was just the laughingstock of the whole company, but something major also happened these past few days.”
Qin Zheng’s eyes narrowed, his fingertips unconsciously tightening.
“What is it?”
There was an urgency in his voice that Qin Zheng hadn’t even noticed himself. A glint of light flashed in Jian Yunchen’s eyes, but he let out a soft sigh.
“Yan Yi had her uncle hold up our family’s goods. As you know, the cooperation with ‘Zhaohui’ means everything to the Jiang family. Now, because of these fabricated matters, everything has fallen through at the last moment—President Jiang is furious.”
Qin Zheng’s face turned black instantly. His hand clenched into a fist and he suddenly slammed it on the table. “Yan Yi has truly gone too far!”
The coffee cup on the table shook slightly. Jian Yunchen hooked his lips and looked up at him, a faint light shimmering in his eyes.
“Yan Yi’s uncle,” he paused, his gaze slowly scanning Qin Zheng’s face, not missing a single change in his expression, “is Yan Junxing.”
