Chapter 65#
“I’ve got your back.”#
The thick curtains firmly blocked the morning light.
After one night, the cruise ship had already docked, the sun rose, and the city returned to its usual hustle and bustle.
In the dim room, only a few faint rays of light seeped through. Jian Yunshen’s eyelids fluttered slightly, his long lashes quivered, and he slowly opened his eyes.
He instinctively reached out to feel beside him. The thin blanket slipped from his bare shoulders, revealing his neck, arms, and wrists, all covered in various teeth marks and ambiguous traces.
The clothes scattered on the floor had been tidied up at some point, and the heating in the room was on, maintaining a most comfortable temperature.
Jian Yunshen, however, suddenly opened his eyes wide, and the drowsiness in them instantly vanished. He propped up his upper body and turned his head to look at the empty bedside.
There was no lingering warmth.
He tightened his fingertips, clenching them into a fist.
Qin Mu had actually left again.
Jian Yunshen bit his lower lip tightly. Last night’s sweetness receded like a tide, leaving behind only a chaotic mess.
Just then, the door was gently pushed open.
The light filtering through the crack in the door briefly illuminated the dim room.
Qin Mu carried a tray, closed the door with his backhand, and raised an eyebrow slightly.
“Woke up so early, why didn’t you sleep more?”
As he spoke, he walked step by step towards Jian Yunshen.
Jian Yunshen stared at him blankly. As the distance continuously shortened, Qin Mu’s features gradually became clear. Jian Yunshen’s previously sluggish heartbeat seemed to instantly regain vitality, beginning to beat erratically.
“You weren’t here…”
He had just woken up, and his voice still carried a slight hoarseness. From this simple sentence, Qin Mu clearly detected a hint of grievance.
He casually put down the tray in his hand, knelt on one knee on the mattress, his gaze sweeping over the concave line of Jian Yunshen’s spine. The scars on his back were covered in blood-red hickeys, looking both suggestive and alluring.
Qin Mu looked at those marks, his eyes deepening. He then leaned down to kiss his prominent, beautiful shoulder blade. The cool kiss covered last night’s marks, and Jian Yunshen’s body trembled as memories flooded back.
“I went to get you breakfast, otherwise you’d be hungry when you woke up.”
Jian Yunshen turned around, wrapped his arms around Qin Mu’s waist, rubbed against his shoulder, and complained in a low, quiet tone, “I thought you left again.”
Qin Mu chuckled softly, pulled the blanket to cover his bare back, and teased, “What? You don’t want me to leave?”
“Mm…” Jian Yunshen didn’t deny it, leaning against his shoulder and nodding gently.
“I don’t want you to leave.”
A warm current flowed into Qin Mu’s heart with these words. He smiled pleasantly and gently ruffled his hair, “Mm, I won’t leave.”
The room had an open kitchenette. Qin Mu meticulously arranged the breakfast he brought from the buffet restaurant on the table.
The sound of water stopped, and Jian Yunshen walked out of the bathroom dressed in a change of clothes.
Sunlight spilled onto Qin Mu, enveloping him in a warm, golden glow.
It made him appear much gentler.
Jian Yunshen paused slightly, remembering the teeth marks beneath his clothes. The skin still seemed to retain a faint pain. Only when he saw himself in the mirror during his shower did he realize that Qin Mu hadn’t held back at all last night; there were faint bite marks all over his body, even on his ankles.
Is Qin Mu a dog?
He sat down, looking at the table full of breakfast, and blankly gnawed slowly on a piece of bread.
Qin Mu leaned on the table, a smile playing on his lips, and seeing his puzzled expression, he raised an eyebrow slightly, “What’s wrong?”
Jian Yunshen slowly swallowed the bread in his mouth, feeling a drum beating in his heart.
He wanted to ask,
To ask Qin Mu what kind of relationship they had now.
But he didn’t dare, fearing that the answer, once spoken, would not align with what he had in mind.
He didn’t have the courage to bear that consequence.
Jian Yunshen gently shook his head.
The phone placed nearby suddenly lit up.
Jian Yunshen picked up his phone and scrolled through the messages.
Last night, Jiang Yunhan sent him several messages over a few hours, and then called him in the early hours of the morning.
The call showed as rejected.
Jian Yunshen’s fingertips paused slightly. He didn’t remember hanging up on Jiang Yunhan.
He looked up at Qin Mu, who was eating breakfast and saw him glance over.
There was no embarrassment at being caught; he was smiling, looking very pleased:
“Jiang Yunhan called you last night.”
“You were… busy at the time.”
“So I hung up on him.”
Jian Yunshen’s temple twitched, and he didn’t pursue the topic further.
Jiang Yunhan added in a message that Qin Zheng had been looking for him everywhere, and as soon as the ship docked in the early morning, he had gone home ahead of him.
He pieced together the information from Jiang Yunhan, curved his lips into a smile, and pondered inwardly.
It seemed the “breaking up the couple” mission was almost over. He should go to his boss for some reward.
He had just opened the chat box with Jiang Sheng.
But found that this “reward” had come to him on its own.
[‘Zhaohui’ contacted me.]
Jian Yunshen pondered for a moment, then quickly typed a reply with his fingertips:
[To discuss project cooperation?]
New information quickly came from the other side:
[Yes. Scheduled a meeting for next Monday.]
[Well done.]
Jian Yunshen looked at that reply, slightly lost in thought.
[After the holiday, you’ll join the company and work on the project.]
His heart surged with emotion, and he eagerly turned to look at Qin Mu.
“My dad said he’s letting me join the company after the holiday!”
As soon as the words fell, Jian Yunshen instantly bit his lower lip tightly, his fingertips suddenly clenched. A wave of embarrassment spread; that address had been absent for too many years, and now blurting it out felt like a slap in the face, making his cheeks burn with pain.
Qin Mu seemed not to notice his sudden change in expression.
He took his phone, his gaze falling on the last message.
He reached out and gently ruffled the top of Jian Yunshen’s hair.
“So impressive.”
Jian Yunshen’s eyes flickered slightly, and his stiff body gradually relaxed again.
He looked up at Qin Mu, at the smile on the man’s lips.
His heart was thumping.
He raised his bright eyes, like a child asking for a reward, with a hint of smugness and showing off, and said to Qin Mu, “It was because I found Manager Ji last night that I got this opportunity; originally, they already had better options.”
Qin Mu leaned on his hand, looking at him, and unconsciously also smiled.
He played along and said:
“Wow, that’s amazing.”
“So great.”
Jian Yunshen pursed his lips and nodded slightly.
“When I take action, there’s nothing that doesn’t succeed.”
Qin Mu suppressed a laugh. His phone screen lit up, showing a message from Ji Weiyi, a small line of text popping up on the screen:
[Mr. Shan, I’ve already contacted Jiang Sheng.]
He turned off the screen and looked back.
“Truly impressive. You’ve joined the company, so from now on, I’ll have to rely on you to cover for me, right?”
Jian Yunshen nodded and said to him, “Okay.”
Qin Mu was startled for a moment.
“Qin Mu, from now on, I’ll protect you, and I definitely won’t let them bully you.”
