Chapter 54#
Marriage Agency (Only Responsible for Breaking Up, Not for Success)#
“What exactly are you still hiding from me!”
The study door was suddenly pulled open from the inside, and Jiang Yunchen was caught off guard, locking eyes with Jiang Yunhan, who was holding the doorknob.
The angry tears on his face hadn’t yet dissipated. When he saw Jiang Yunchen, his reddened eyes widened in surprise.
The heated argument was interrupted, and the air suddenly stagnated for two seconds.
Jiang Yunchen’s gaze swept the room; the object smashed on the floor was the very trophy Jiang Yunhan had just brought home today.
Jiang Sheng sat in his chair, his expression as indifferent as ever, though the emotion in his eyes grew several degrees colder when he saw Jiang Yunchen enter.
“Xiao Chen…”
Jiang Yunhan was the first to speak, but he didn’t follow up.
Jiang Yunchen glanced at his whitening knuckles before shifting his gaze to Jiang Sheng, his voice laced with mockery: “If CEO Jiang is busy bonding with his son, I’ll come back later.”
“Xiao Chen,” Jiang Yunhan frowned, “What are you saying? You are also Father’s—”
“Heh.”
A cold sneer cut him off.
Jiang Sheng acted as if he hadn’t heard the conversation between them. He spoke up, “Xiao Han, you’ve had a long day. Go back and rest first.”
“But—” Jiang Yunhan turned his head to look back.
He was rejected with an indisputable tone: “Be good.”
Since childhood, Jiang Sheng’s only requirement for him was to be “obedient.” As soon as those two words came out, the rare thorns on Jiang Yunhan’s body instantly softened. He lowered his eyes and softly replied with a “Yes.”
As he left, he quietly stole a glance at Jiang Yunchen.
The two passed each other. Jiang Yunchen passed him without looking back, walking straight to sit opposite Jiang Sheng.
Jiang Yunhan lowered his eyes in disappointment and retreated.
As the door closed softly, Jiang Sheng’s face abruptly darkened. He loosened his tie, his sharp gaze piercing through his lenses directly at Jiang Yunchen.
“Not just Qin Mu,” he said with cold irony, “Even Xiao Han has been charmed into circles by you.”
“I didn’t know you had learned such ‘coaxing’ methods from your mother.”
Jiang Yunchen leaned back in his chair nonchalantly, his gaze falling on the trophy discarded in the corner.
The “Gold Prize” engraved on the base was so dazzling, yet it had been tossed into a corner where no one cared.
He suddenly found it somewhat ironic.
“When it comes to ‘coaxing,’ CEO Jiang’s methods are still superior.”
Jiang Yunchen followed up airily.
“Aren’t you the one coaxing Jiang Yunhan like a fool? I have never lied to him.”
A low chuckle escaped Jiang Sheng’s throat.
“Of course you wouldn’t understand,” he said. “Jiang Yunhan’s world is simply not on the same level as yours.”
“A fool?” He repeated the word as if hearing something absurd. “He is my chosen successor. He has never taken second place since he was a child. You call a person like that a fool?”
His tone shifted, mixed with a fair amount of sarcasm: “However… you did surprise me a little. Fourth place. To think you could actually achieve that rank.”
Jiang Yunchen’s jawline tightened. He replied coldly, “I could also be first.”
“I don’t lack first places.”
Jiang Sheng leaned back, looking down at him indifferently.
“Even if you took first, so what? It would be completely meaningless.”
“Furthermore…”
“You are not first.”
Every word seemed to stab at Jiang Yunchen’s spine. His face was tense, appearing expressionless, but his back teeth were grinding.
The boy’s wolf-like gaze began to make Jiang Sheng feel amused. He leaned back further, the corners of his mouth curling upward. “Do you know about Qin Mu being kicked out of the company?”
Jiang Yunchen turned his head away. The burning anger in his chest made his internal organs ache. It only felt better when he no longer had to look at that man’s face.
“I know.”
Jiang Sheng frowned and slammed the table hard. “You knew and you didn’t tell me?”
“Don’t forget the terms you agreed to. Jiang Yunchen, don’t let me be right—it’s been so long, have you handled Qin Mu? Have you completely forgotten the conditions we discussed?”
He couldn’t help but stiffen his neck in retort: “How do you know I haven’t handled Qin Mu?”
“Chasing after him all day counts as ‘handling’ him?”
Jiang Yunchen grit his teeth and fell into total silence.
The smell of gunpowder in the air grew stronger. Neither Jiang Sheng nor Jiang Yunchen was willing to take a step back. The dark light in Jiang Sheng’s eyes deepened. Ever since Jiang Yunchen appeared, everything had begun to slip from his control. His obedient and excellent eldest son had turned red-faced arguing with him for the first time, and the younger son who had been lost for years was even more wild and unruly.
Thinking of Jiang Yunhan’s accusations, the expression on his face froze. “You don’t need to worry about Qin Mu’s affairs for now. Find a way to stop Xiao Han from further associating with Qin Zheng.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yunchen couldn’t help but let out a “Pfft” and laughed, though there was no mirth in his eyes.
“CEO Jiang, you think too highly of me. I have that kind of business too? What do you think I am, a marriage agency? Is your next step to have me introduce a boyfriend to Jiang Yunhan?”
Jiang Sheng ignored his sarcasm. “I have my own plans for Xiao Han’s partner. You only need to do your part. Don’t forget who gave you your current identity and status.”
“Identity? Status?” Jiang Yunchen’s voice suddenly turned cold. “I don’t even have the surname Jiang. What identity or status do I have? In your eyes, aren’t I just a convenient tool?”
Jiang Sheng swept a cold glance over him, giving a light yet firm warning: “Since I can give it, I can take it back.”
After a long while, Jiang Yunchen looked up at him and made a demand: “I need to know the reason.”
“Reason?” Jiang Sheng chuckled. “Do you need such a thing?”
“I do.” An incredibly firm answer.
Jiang Sheng looked at him for a moment and finally relented. “Qin Zheng’s methods are too crude. His intention to climb up is too obvious, and his ’eating manner’ is too ugly. Is that reason enough?”
“Regarding the medical robot project, he is too greedy and wants to swallow it all by himself.”
He sneered. “He’s only in his twenties; he should be careful not to choke to death.”
“Fine,” Jiang Yunchen agreed. “But I want to participate in this project.”
Jiang Sheng laughed softly, as if watching a naughty child make a fantastical request.
“Just you?”
“Yes, just me.”
Jiang Yunchen wasn’t affected by his contemptuous smile. He stared fixedly at Jiang Sheng. “Since you are unwilling to destroy your perfect image in front of your ‘good son’ and don’t want to be the sinner who breaks up the lovers, let me throw the dirty water. I’ll be the villain. As long as you promise to let me into this project.”
Jiang Sheng frowned impatiently, but Jiang Yunchen continued.
“I am the most suitable candidate. You know how much Jiang Yunhan cares about me.”
Jiang Sheng’s movements paused slightly as he began to deliberate.
The trophy thrown on the ground, the conversation at the door, Jiang Yunhan’s gaze—it wasn’t hard to piece together that the origin of their argument lay with himself, perhaps even stemming from that conversation backstage.
Jiang Yunchen didn’t know if Jiang Yunhan actually cared about him, but using Jiang Yunhan as a wager was a risky move, yet one with a high chance of winning.
The man’s low voice sounded, making Jiang Yunchen secretly breathe a sigh of relief.
“The project hasn’t been finalized yet. Qin Zheng has been trying to clear the path through government relations to monopolize it.”
The meaning behind these words was clearly an agreement to Jiang Yunchen’s request.
He smiled. “I will make him fail.”
