Chapter 20#

Turns out, that day was also his birthday#

Qin Mu also smiled and handed over the documents beside him.

“Thank you, Brother Qin Mu.” Jiang Yunhan eagerly reached out and took them. The document bag was thin, and he pulled out the papers, carefully flipping through them.

The more he read, the tighter his brows furrowed, until he finished flipping through the few thin pages, then he looked up again, “Is this all the information that could be found?”

How could nearly twenty years of a person’s life not even fill twenty pages?

The documents were flipped through again, making a “rustling” sound.

Qin Mu slightly tilted his chin, “What else do you want to know?”

Not until he finished flipping through them again did Jiang Yunhan believe that there wasn’t a single clue related to the Jiang family in the documents. He recalled the face similar to his own and the words the person had said.

Jiang Yunhan muttered to himself, “How is that possible… How could he not be from the Jiang family…”

“It depends on what you think.”

Jiang Yunhan suddenly looked up, “What do you mean?”

“Whether he is a Jiang family member or not depends solely on your father’s word.”

“If President Jiang says he is, then he is. If President Jiang says he isn’t, then he can only not be.”

Jiang Yunhan’s eyes trembled. These few sentences were easy to understand.

Even if Jian Yunchen truly was, under Jiang Sheng’s orders, no one could find his past.

But if he wasn’t, then why would such an order be given?

But… why?

What was his father’s purpose, what was the reason for doing this?

He had no way of knowing. At this moment, his thoughts were in a mess, and he could only stare blankly at the meager documents.

Qin Mu looked at Jiang Yunhan and decided to add fuel to the fire: “Speaking of which… the investigation found that Jian Yunchen’s mother, it seems, had many bad habits and no ability to earn money.”

Hearing this, Jiang Yunhan couldn’t help but frown again: “Then how did he live since childhood?”

Qin Mu didn’t answer.

Some things, left unsaid, leave more room for imagination.

As expected, seeing Qin Mu’s silence, Jiang Yunhan bit his lower lip, a look of unbearable sympathy on his face.

He clutched the documents, wanting to seek the true truth from his father.

Before leaving, he looked at Qin Mu, hesitated repeatedly, and finally asked, “Qin Mu, yesterday, why did Jian Yunchen get out of your car?”

Qin Mu was stunned for a moment, not expecting him to ask such a question.

“You, and him, are you…?”

He knew Qin Mu’s feelings for him, and also knew that Jian Yunchen resembled him.

One was the brother who had accompanied him since childhood, the other was his suspected biological brother.

He couldn’t favor either side, but he also didn’t want Jian Yunchen to be bullied.

“Oh, you mean that.”

Qin Mu smiled innocently: “Didn’t you know? Yesterday he was hit by Qin Zheng and injured. I saw he was pitiful and took him to get his wound treated.”

It was a flimsy excuse, but Jiang Yunhan’s attention was instantly captured by the phrase “hit by Qin Zheng and injured.”

He frowned, “Is he okay?”

Qin Mu shook his head, “Minor injuries, all treated.”

Having gotten the desired information, Jiang Yunhan couldn’t sit still and was about to get up and leave, when Qin Zheng suddenly arrived.

Qin Mu sat aside, drinking coffee, unsure whether to marvel at the protagonists’ attraction or if it was truly destiny.

The coffee here tasted ordinary, and usually, not many people were seen, but today it was lively.

He put down his cup and looked over with a smile, “What a coincidence?”

Jiang Yunhan looked back, a look of surprise also on his face.

But he was now eager to find Jiang Sheng and couldn’t spare any other thoughts.

“I have to go now.”

Qin Zheng’s smile, which he hadn’t even had time to fully form, instantly froze, and he spoke with dissatisfaction, “I just got here, and you’re already leaving?”

“I have an urgent matter.”

“What urgent matter? Don’t you even have time to say a few words to me?”

Jiang Yunhan wore a helpless expression. His feelings were somewhat complex towards this person who had just injured Jian Yunchen.

Although he couldn’t yet confirm his relationship with Jian Yunchen, the “Brother” that Jian Yunchen blurted out last night had already given him a few more points of certainty in his heart.

He took the documents and nodded towards Qin Mu, “Brother Qin Mu, I’m leaving now, bye-bye.”

With that, he walked straight out, regardless of what Qin Zheng, who remained in place, thought.

The person was gone, but Qin Zheng still had his head turned in that direction. Qin Mu couldn’t help but click his tongue in wonder:

“So affectionate? Why didn’t you go after him?”

Qin Zheng turned back, his expression well-controlled, but a hint of disgust still lurked in his eyes.

“My business with Hanhan is none of your concern.”

The residual warmth outside lingered, yet Qin Mu involuntarily shivered.

Hanhan…

Is this some kind of sick pleasure?

He shrugged, saying indifferently, “Suit yourself.”

As he spoke, he also got up to leave, but Qin Zheng blocked his path, giving him a cold glance.

That look was as if he were garbage.

Qin Mu raised an eyebrow, “Move aside, don’t you know good dogs don’t block the way?”

Qin Zheng’s face twisted for a moment, and he let out a sneer, saying sarcastically, “You can only gain a verbal advantage. Soon, you won’t be able to laugh anymore.”

Qin Mu stood thoughtfully for a moment, then suddenly took a step forward, leaning slightly with a lazy air, “Then next time, I won’t just take verbal advantages.”

“I am a very greedy person.”

“I want to take advantage of any bargain.”

How could a cunning fox only take verbal advantages?

Jiangchen Group is located in the most prosperous part of the city center.

At exactly nine o’clock, Jian Yunchen appeared here on time, dressed in a simple white t-shirt and clean jeans, his student-like attire out of place among the crowd.

He pushed open the door to the top-floor office, and the moment he lifted his gaze, it directly met the eyes of the man behind the desk.

The man had handsome features and a cold demeanor. Seeing him enter, he merely lifted his eyes, not even changing his posture in the slightest.

Jian Yunchen’s gaze never wavered. He walked straight to the chair opposite him and sat down.

He looked directly at this man, his biological father.

This was their second meeting.

The atmosphere between the two was stagnant, both seemingly recalling their rather unpleasant first meeting.

“President Jiang,” he said softly, “Long time no see.”

Jiang Sheng looked at him, and a hint of dissatisfaction gradually rose in his placid eyes.

Their first meeting was when Jian Yunchen was eighteen.

On the day Jiang Yunhan came of age, the entire city was broadcasting the grand occasion of his coming-of-age ceremony.

Flowers, applause, sunlight, champagne, everything like a fairy tale, was presented before him just like that.

The most expensive large screen in the city was continuously displaying information about Jiang Yunhan.

As the sole heir of the Jiang family, he had been extremely well-protected before coming of age.

On the big screen, he had a proper smile, a gentle demeanor, sparkling eyes, and exuded an air of nobility from head to toe.

At that time, he was finishing his part-time job at a shady internet cafe, passing by the most prosperous alleyway.

In the past, Jian Yunchen would never look up when passing by.

Everything displayed there had no relation to his life whatsoever.

But that day, for some reason, Jian Yunchen suddenly looked up.

He saw a life completely opposite to his own.

He stood by the roadside, craning his neck to look at the big screen until his neck became stiff and his eyes began to ache.

Passersby gathered, speaking words he couldn’t understand, in tones of envy or indifference.

The green light came on, and someone behind him passed him, accidentally bumping into Jian Yunchen’s shoulder.

The hat he was wearing accidentally fell. The moment Jian Yunchen turned his head, the face revealed perfectly matched the face on the big screen behind him.

The passerby’s eyes widened in shock, but after clearly seeing Jian Yunchen’s overall attire, their wide eyes slowly returned to normal. He picked up the hat, handed it back, whispered an apology, turned around, and melted into the crowd, no longer to be found.

The crowd slowly dispersed, and the big screen gradually dimmed.

Jian Yunchen slowly blinked his eyes.

He remembered that, it turned out, that day was also his birthday.
