Chapter 132#
However, tears are not meant to solve problems.#
“Stop crying.”
“Wipe away your tears. Tears can’t solve any problems. Jiang Sheng is now in a coma, and you have the duty and obligation to find out the truth. If he never wakes up, Jiang Sheng’s shares will be inherited by you; you will be the next successor of ‘Jiang Ming’.”
“A successor cannot always be crying.”
Jiang Yunhan’s face stiffened. He bit his lip hard, his tears held back, his eyes turning bloodshot from the effort.
Jian Yunchen looked at the face identical to his own, which wore such an expression, and gave a slight sigh.
He couldn’t tell if his heart softened because of that similar face, or because of Jiang Yunhan himself. In any case, his heart, hard as iron, softened for a moment.
Perhaps it was because he remembered his own remarkably similar experiences—on every night he wanted to cry, he had always hoped that someone would appear, hold him gently in their arms, and tell him it was okay.
Tears indeed cannot solve any problems.
However, tears are not meant to solve problems.
He sat beside Jiang Yunhan, awkwardly patted his back, and said softly with a cold little face: “Just this once. Go ahead and cry.”
Jiang Yunhan turned to look at him, and in the blink of an eye, the tears fell.
He threw himself into Jian Yunchen’s arms, his tears soaking his shirt.
The cold liquid slid down into Jian Yunchen’s neck. He stiffened, letting Jiang Yunhan clutch his hem tightly, while he raised his hand to stroke Jiang Yunhan’s back.
The trembling back gradually calmed down, and Jian Yunchen’s collar was stained with quite a few marks.
Jian Yunchen pursed his lips and gave him a light push. “Are you done crying?”
Jiang Yunhan paused, lifted his swollen, red eyes, and pushed himself up.
He held onto Jian Yunchen’s shirt corner and sniffled: “Xiao Chen…”
Jian Yunchen tugged at his tear-soaked collar; the damp fabric stuck to his skin, the cold, sticky sensation extremely uncomfortable. He frowned impatiently and let out a casual, “Hmm?”
The next moment, a small, delicate key was placed into his palm by Jiang Yunhan.
Jian Yunchen’s gaze froze abruptly. Ignoring the wet clothes, he grabbed the key and looked at Jiang Yunhan.
The second he saw the key, alarm bells rang in Jian Yunchen’s mind. Intuition told him that this key might be related to Qin Mu.
Jian Yunchen stared intently at Jiang Yunhan, his Adam’s apple bobbing dryly. He suppressed his racing heart and asked: “What is this key?”
Jiang Yunhan frowned slightly. “This is a key Qin Zheng hid. I thought it was suspicious, so I took it while he was asleep.”
Jian Yunchen’s heart skipped a beat, grasping the key information in his words. He grabbed Jiang Yunhan’s arm tightly and asked coldly:
“You said you took it while he was asleep? That means you were away for a period of time?”
Jiang Yunhan nodded and gripped his hand back, the red at the corners of his eyes deepening. He choked out: “Yes… I was away for a while, and that time just happened to be—”
“The time when Dad had the accident… You say…” He tightened his fingers, his body unable to stop trembling: “Do you think it could be…”
Jian Yunchen suddenly let out a cold laugh and pulled his hand away: “It was him, after all—”
He pulled Jiang Yunhan’s hand, wanting to rush into the interrogation room the next second: “Tell them, let’s go tell them right now—”
Jiang Yunhan yanked his hand, pulling the standing Jian Yunchen back down: “We can’t tell them—”
“Why can’t we—”
“The evidence to prove Qin Mu’s innocence hasn’t been found yet! If we let Qin Zheng know that I stole the key, where else would we find the lock that matches it?!”
Jiang Yunhan’s words were like a bucket of cold water, dousing Jian Yunchen’s ignited heart. He crossed his arms, his face as dark as ink. After grinding his teeth for a long time, he spat out: “Too bad for him!”
Jiang Yunhan’s eyes were reddish as he leaned closer: “I will find a way to stay by his side these next few days and find where the key fits. But…” he hesitated, “just this is far from enough. Even if I say I left the room for a while, it doesn’t prove that it was Qin Zheng who pushed Dad downstairs…”
“So… I think…”
Jian Yunchen turned his head abruptly to glare at the stuttering boy, his eyes full of disbelief: “You don’t mean you want me to find out who pushed Jiang Sheng, do you?”
Jiang Yunhan bit his pale lip, hesitating to nod.
Jian Yunchen gave a mocking smile: “You really are dreaming. Maybe it was actually me who pushed him. Doesn’t the whole world know that I want him dead?”
Jiang Yunhan frowned slowly: “You wouldn’t.”
He said with extreme certainty: “Even if you and Dad have deep conflicts, you wouldn’t really kill him. You would absolutely never do something like that.”
Jiang Yunhan took his hands with both of his own, his lashes lowered: “Whether it’s Jian Xin, Jian Jinbao, or… Tang Qi, who bullied you before—even if you retaliated, you never actually harmed anyone. You aren’t a bad person, I know that.”
He paused, squeezed his hands, and said in a hoarse voice: “I’m sorry, Xiao Chen. At the time… I misunderstood that you were the one bullying Tang Rong. I didn’t expect that it was actually him bullying you—”
Jian Yunchen pulled his hand away, his tone cold: “There’s no need to apologize for the past. Back then, I wasn’t the only one who thought that.”
Jiang Yunhan’s lashes trembled, and he squeezed his fingertips.
Jian Yunchen frowned in annoyance, yet could no longer maintain his cold tone: “Just because of this?”
Jiang Yunhan slowly raised his eyes, carefully observing Jian Yunchen’s expression before continuing: “Actually… there is another reason.”
“What?” Jian Yunchen looked into his eyes and asked.
“Qin Mu.”
“Huh?” Jian Yunchen frowned subconsciously.
Jiang Yunhan pursed his lips and said carefully: “Because of Qin Mu.”
“I think, since you like him so much, you definitely wouldn’t do such a thing. You can’t accept even the slightest possibility of losing him.”
“Therefore, no matter how much you hate Dad, you wouldn’t do something like that.”
Jian Yunchen listened to his words, speechless for a long while, his mouth opening and closing several times.
He truly couldn’t find a chance to refute him.
Because he really could not accept that there might be the slightest possibility of losing Qin Mu.
Time ticked away, second by second.
Yan Yi was the first to finish the interrogation and was picked up and taken home early. The rest were handled by the butler.
Qin Zheng followed closely behind, and not long after, he came out as well. Without a word, he took Jiang Yunhan’s hand and walked toward the door.
Before leaving, Jiang Yunhan looked back at Jian Yunchen with red eyes for a long time, but finally complied and followed him into the car.
Because of his uncooperative attitude, Jian Jinbao was detained. During the few steps he was dragged away, he kept shouting “Qin Zheng”’s name. Jian Yunchen sat outside, listening quietly, his eyes cold, various guesses constantly rising in his heart.
Time ticked away, second by second.
Qin Mu, however, did not come out. He couldn’t wait any longer, stood up, and pushed open that door.
But to his surprise, the room behind the door was completely empty.
