Chapter 44 - 2#
Du Yijie was engrossed, clutching my hand, without saying a word.
Later, as we sat in the car, he suddenly spoke: “That woman is too stupid.”
I looked at him. He said, “If you like someone, shouldn’t you just say it clearly? Why put on airs? If you don’t say it, who would know?”
Upon hearing this, I nodded blankly.
Yes, if you don’t say it, who would know…?
Before heading back, Du Yijie took me to eat Western food again. He drank a few glasses of red wine and seemed to be in high spirits. Later, when we returned to the room, he suddenly hugged me from behind and kept kissing my neck. I shuddered and pushed him away, moving a few steps back.
Du Yijie was a bit stunned by the push, then he brushed his hair and said, “…You still won’t accept me?”
I clenched my fists.
“If you say you still resent me, I can understand. But…” he said, “have you ever thought that this life is truly too short?”
“Xiao Qi, haven’t I been attentive enough to you?”
I looked up at him and said, “It’s impossible.”
He paused, and I continued loudly: “If you think I should forgive you just because you’ve been attentive to me these past few days, that’s impossible.”
I rubbed my forehead. “Du Yijie, I will never forgive you in this lifetime.”
“During this time, I’ve been… can’t you give me a chance? I’m the one who can accompany you in the future, aren’t I? Is it worth it to give up on others because of a dead person?” His expression darkened.
“Even if that’s the case…” I looked directly at him. “Even if… even if it wasn’t you who killed Wang Zheng in the beginning. Even if Wang Zheng died in an accident… I still couldn’t accept you.”
“Just like you said, you’ve been attentive and are trying to compensate me, so I should give you a chance…”
“If that’s the case, that chance shouldn’t be reserved for you.”
Du Yijie took a deep breath, then turned around and stormed out.
I stood there for a long while before my legs gave way, and I collapsed onto the floor.
I…
If that’s the case, that person hurt me, yet he has also been attentive to me for two lifetimes…
If I put it that way, shouldn’t I save that chance for him?
Thinking of this, I suddenly gave a bitter smile and shook my head.
————————
Such days continued for over forty days. Du Yijie went from being busy to having some free time, and now, he was nowhere to be found again.
The previous calm felt like nothing more than a prelude to a storm about to hit.
That night, Du Yijie was brought back, covered in blood. As soon as he stepped into the house, he started shouting, “Xiao Qi! Xiao Qi!” throughout the house. I had already become accustomed to Du Yijie’s volatile personality, and since I couldn’t sleep well at night anyway, I opened the door on my own before the bodyguards could come up to ask for me.
However, when I walked downstairs and saw the scene, I couldn’t help but feel a shock of horror.
The white shirt under Du Yijie’s jacket was stained with blood, and three doctors were busy treating his wounds. The moment Du Yijie saw me, a faint smile appeared on his pale face, and he beckoned me over.
I stood frozen in place until Du Yijie let out a muffled groan, frowned, and said, “Xiao Qi, come here.”
A bodyguard pushed me forward, so I had no choice but to take a few steps toward him. Du Yijie looked at me, gave a wry smile, and said, “Xiao Qi, it hurts.”
I was three steps away from him when Du Yijie suddenly stood up, grabbed my hand, and we both swayed. He fell back onto the sofa, and I tumbled down beside his legs. Just as I struggled to stand up, Du Yijie spoke: “I almost died, but I missed you so much. I had to make it out alive no matter what.”
I paused and looked at him.
Du Yijie had been shot in the shoulder, and blood was constantly gushing out, yet he kept moving, making it nearly impossible for the three doctors to work.
“How could this…”
Du Yijie smiled faintly, gently pinched my chin, then let out a breath and leaned his head back, closing his eyes. His face was covered in sweat. If his hand hadn’t still been gripping my shoulder, I would have thought he had passed out.
After his wounds were properly dressed, Du Yijie opened his eyes, patted me, and said, “Xiao Qi, help me upstairs.”
Du Yijie seemed accustomed to such wounds; even with some blood loss, his face only looked paler. My palms were sweating, but when he draped his arm over my shoulder, I passively helped him up. When we reached the bedroom and I helped him to the bed, Du Yijie used his other hand to hook my shoulder, pulling me into his arms. We both fell onto the bed, and as I struggled, he kissed me without a word.
“You—”
Du Yijie didn’t let me finish. One hand pressed down on my shoulders, while his other injured hand kept stroking my buttocks back and forth.
I turned red with anger and pushed him hard; after all, he was injured and was at a disadvantage in strength. As soon as I broke free, I scrambled off the bed and stepped back, but just as I was about to rush out the door, Du Yijie called out to me.
“Xiao Qi,” he said, “are you happy?”
I was panting slightly, holding the door handle, looking back at him, confused.
I saw Du Yijie sitting against the headboard, his expression almost decadent. He closed his eyes and said, “Your third uncle almost gave up everything to trade for you. He was even holding back when he attacked, afraid that if I got desperate, I would take it out on you.”
Du Yijie gave a wide grin and disclosed his plan without reservation: “Xiao Qi, he tried every tactic to trade for you, and I achieved my purpose—I was just waiting for him to reveal all his cards—and then I’d ‘return’ you to him for a while, only to snatch you back later. It’s all the same.”
“Despicable,” I glared at him.
“Yes, I am quite despicable.” Du Yijie sighed and looked up. “So, I’ve changed my mind.”
I looked at him suspiciously.
He smiled and beckoned me over again.
I stayed where I was. He shook his head with a smile and said, “If you don’t come over, I can have someone drag you over and tie you up; it’s all the same.”
I widened my eyes, clenched my fists, and walked toward him with hesitation. When I was two steps away, Du Yijie reached out, wrapped his arms around my waist, and pulled me over. He buried his face in my waist and rubbed against it, then let out a sigh of satisfaction. “Xiao Qi, you smell so good.”
I pushed him away uncomfortably, averted my eyes, and said, “…What are you planning?”
Du Yijie chuckled a few times and leaned down slightly, gently rubbing his cheek against that area between my legs. I jumped in shock and struggled to push his shoulders away. Du Yijie remained unmoved, wrapping his arms tighter. He used his mouth to pull down the zipper, then, through a layer of fabric, lightly nibbled at me. In a panic, I raised my hands and grabbed his hair, trying to pull his head away, but he suddenly opened his mouth to latch onto me, using his hand to drag my waist downward.
“…Bastard!” I kicked at him, but Du Yijie wrapped his limbs around my body, recklessly pulling down my pants. I grabbed the foot of the bed in shock, trying to use it for leverage to break free. Du Yijie held my lower body, pressed my legs together, and buried his head between them, continuing his deep and rhythmic motions.
I gripped the bedsheets tightly, struggling for a while, until finally, I could only clench my teeth and close my eyes.
I don’t know how long this stalemate lasted, but I felt my body jolt suddenly, and the sucking sound in my ears softened. I opened my eyes, panting, and Du Yijie leaned to my ear. “Does that feel good?”
I gritted my teeth and struggled to roll over, not wanting to look at him.
However, as if wanting to make up for all the empty time, Du Yijie reached out to rub me there again. Since I had already released once, this time I only felt pain. Once I had enough strength, I raised my hand and slapped him across the face. Du Yijie didn’t get angry; he just smiled, and suddenly started working me hard again. I let out a muffled gasp as he whispered in my ear: “Xiao Qi, you really are a treasure…”
He used both hands, biting my earlobe.
“Life is too short. I’m not afraid of suffering; these things can be earned back if lost, but if you were gone, I would regret it to death for the rest of my life.”
Just as I was about to release again, he suddenly bit down hard on my shoulder.
I shuddered in pain.
He let go with a laugh, leaving two rows of teeth marks on my shoulder. Then, he kissed my brow and said another improper thing: “…A treasure like this, I have to take it with me even if I die.”
That night, Du Yijie went out again and didn’t return until the next morning, but this time he brought back two large suitcases.
He walked into the room and threw the suitcases onto the floor.
I sat on the bed, looking at him with deep suspicion.
Du Yijie walked over to me, touched my face, and asked, “Have you eaten?” I turned my head away.
He gave a small laugh, bent down to kiss my forehead, and walked over to the bookshelf behind the desk. I watched him move something on the table, and the bookshelf suddenly shifted, revealing a hidden compartment designed like a safe.
I wasn’t surprised, just filled with a sense of dread. Du Yijie didn’t look at me, focusing on operating the safe until it clicked open.
Du Yijie took out gold bars from inside.
He found another box and placed all the gold bars into it.
During this, he took a phone call.
“Is it arranged? Mm, tell Lawrence to bring Ah De over. Is the helicopter ready?”
Du Yijie hung up the phone, walked over, and took a piece of clothing from the closet. “Change your clothes; we’re leaving in a while.”
Leave?
“Where are we going?” I stood up from the bed, looking at him.
Du Yijie didn’t answer, just hurriedly packed things—stock certificates, land deeds, and that box of gold bars. He opened the other two suitcases; one was filled with cash, and the other was filled with firearms.
I stared at him in shock.
“Don’t worry.” Du Yijie gave me a smile in return. “This money is enough to last us a good while.”
“I don’t mean that!” I raised my voice, stepped forward, and grabbed him. “…What are you trying to do!”
His phone rang again. Du Yijie ignored me and turned to answer the call.
However, a moment later, his expression changed drastically.
“—I’ll be there right away!” Du Yijie looked back at me, as if trying to appease me. “Xiao Qi, wait here. Don’t go out, don’t even step out of this room!”
He gave the instruction with extreme seriousness, then grabbed his coat and strode out the door.
I didn’t know what had happened, but I looked blankly at the pile of things on the floor, then walked to the sofa, feeling dizzy, and sat down.
He had locked the door from the outside, and since this was the third floor, it was unlikely I could escape.
I leaned against the sofa and closed my eyes.
It felt like quite a while had passed when sound came from the doorway, followed by the faint noise of a key turning in the lock.
I couldn’t help but open my eyes and sit up straight.
When I turned to look, I paused.
Ah De was sitting in a wheelchair, struggling to push himself in with one hand.
His other empty sleeve swayed gently in the air.
As he turned toward me, he flashed a grin. “Yo, young master, you look pretty good.”
