Chapter 10#
Chapter 10 Car Accident
“Young Master He’s words are incorrect,” Gu Chenzhou laughed, “I only have this one precious brother, if I don’t dote on him, who should I dote on? I didn’t accompany him to do anything while I was abroad for three years, now it’s all as it should be.”
The precious brother shuddered involuntarily.
He Hailou glanced at Gu Zhengjia with a faint smile, and said to Gu Chenzhou: “Young Master Gu really sees through things.”
“I can’t help but see clearly,” Gu Chenzhou replied meaningfully, “Speaking of seeing through things, isn’t Young Master He the same? —Don’t just remember to praise me.”
In this back-and-forth conversation, He Hailou was referring to Gu Chenzhou’s stepmother, while Gu Chenzhou retorted about He Hailou’s identity. Speaking of awkwardness, He Hailou, who lived in the He family but was not the legitimate eldest young master of the He family, was much more awkward than him.
The brief and implicit confrontation ended quickly. Gu Chenzhou said a few more words to He Hailou and then took Gu Zhengjia away.
“Stay away from He Hailou in the future.” Walking in the hall, Gu Chenzhou exchanged pleasantries with the people around him while whispering to Gu Zhengjia.
“I know, Big Brother,” Gu Zhengjia’s face didn’t look good either, “The look in his eyes just now gave me goosebumps.”
“You should have heard of his reputation,” Gu Chenzhou had found out the information he wanted to know in the month since he came back, “You are the young master of the Gu family, as long as you don’t act foolishly yourself, he can’t get to you.”
Gu Zhengjia nodded helplessly. Connecting the rumors outside with the look the other party gave him just now, he felt as disgusted as if he had swallowed a fly.
Gu Chenzhou patted Gu Zhengjia on the shoulder: “Alright, this is your birthday party, go find your friends and have fun.”
Gu Zhengjia had already noticed that his friends had been staring at him eagerly since just now. He nodded and said: “Brother, then I’ll go over.”
“Have fun.” After saying a word to Gu Zhengjia, he took a glass of ice water from a passing waiter and drank it to clear his head, looking for Wei Xiangjin’s figure, but the other party didn’t seem to be in the hall. Gu Chenzhou frowned and called a waiter nearby: “Where is Young Master Wei?”
To work in the Shen family, the most basic requirement is to be observant. Upon hearing Gu Chenzhou’s question, the waiter bowed and said: “Young Master Wei received a call just now and went out temporarily.”
Gu Chenzhou nodded, knowing that Wei Xiangjin couldn’t leave without saying anything, so he wasn’t in a hurry to find him. He found a conspicuous place to sit and rest. Not long after, Wei Xiangjin returned to the hall through the side door holding his mobile phone.
His face didn’t look very good. When he walked into the hall, he looked around. After meeting Gu Chenzhou’s eyes, he walked straight towards his position. On the way, he met a few people who greeted him, and he just nodded slightly to deal with them.
“What’s wrong? Something came up?” Seeing a thing or two from the other party’s face, Gu Chenzhou took the initiative to speak before Wei Xiangjin could say anything.
Wei Xiangjin laughed: “It really is, something came up temporarily.” He didn’t elaborate, “I have to go first, I’ll apologize to you later.”
“Young Master Wei is embarrassing me. It’s just a birthday party. I just happened to be in the mood to make it beautiful. What is it worth?” Gu Chenzhou laughed.
“Hey, look at me, I’m silly.” Based on the relationship between the two, he would never say what he just said. Wei Xiangjin patted his forehead and said, “I’ll make it up to Zhengjia with something good later.”
“Thank you for him.” Gu Chenzhou said, looking at Wei Xiangjin’s expression, “Go busy yourself if you have something to do.”
Wei Xiangjin nodded, didn’t stand on ceremony anymore, turned and left the villa.
Gu Chenzhou stood up again, greeted people from several different small circles whom he hadn’t exchanged pleasantries with just now in the party hall, and then found a gap to find James who was busy in the back.
“Young Master Chenzhou?” James was puzzled by Gu Chenzhou’s arrival.
“I have to leave for a while now, I’ll leave the outside to you.” Gu Chenzhou instructed, “Don’t let anyone find out that I’m not here within half an hour.”
James’ heart moved, understanding that the real task of tonight had arrived: “I know, don’t worry. Do you want to say hello to Young Master Zhengjia?”
This question was obviously outside Gu Chenzhou’s plan. He frowned: “No need to tell him specifically. If he asks you actively and it’s after half an hour, then tell him.”
The night mountain wind carried a trace of chill.
21:07. Gu Chenzhou glanced at his mobile phone when starting the car.
One hour and seven minutes since the banquet started, eleven minutes since Wei Xiangjin left.
He didn’t turn on the headlights, turned the steering wheel to drive the separately parked car onto the road down the mountain, and within a few minutes, the speed reached 60 mph.
40 mph, middle section of the mountain road. Gu Chenzhou held the steering wheel with one hand, calculating Wei Xiangjin’s current position in his mind. Familiarity since childhood and careful observation for nearly a month were enough for Gu Chenzhou to grasp Wei Xiangjin’s driving speed without using a monitor.
Just as Wei Xiangjin had suspected earlier, the purpose of Gu Chenzhou holding this birthday party was not only to celebrate the birthday of his half-brother—or rather, the fundamental purpose was not this.
He was verifying his dream.
This was not too difficult. Two years, a villa far from the city that was completed not long ago, a birthday party that happened to come—dark night, after drinking, a winding mountain road with no pedestrians, and a steep cliff on one side.
Gu Chenzhou made the best arrangements, and then waited quietly like a hunter.
Three loops around the mountain, two, one and a half… Gu Chenzhou’s driving speed was still slowly climbing. The strong wind blowing in from the open car window made him squint slightly. The scenery ahead gradually blurred into clusters of gray-black blocks under high-speed driving without headlights.
If it were me, which section of the road would I choose?
The upper section of the mountain road, the middle section, or—the winding mountain road just before reaching the bottom of the mountain, the most relaxing loop?
Gu Chenzhou couldn’t be sure.
He could set a trap calmly, grasp Wei Xiangjin’s speed and itinerary based on his understanding of him, but he couldn’t guess the final choice of the person hiding in the dark.
It was precisely this uncertainty that made him drive faster and faster.
Three thousand meters, two thousand four, one thousand eight.
Half of the mountain road had been covered.
One thousand two, nine hundred, seven hundred.
Three-quarters of the journey.
Another turn, a loud noise suddenly mixed with the screeching of the mountain wind into his ears.
At this moment, Gu Chenzhou didn’t think about anything, stepped on the accelerator, and the car rushed out of the winding mountain road like an arrow leaving the string!
Under the dim streetlights on both sides of the road, the dark tree shadows swept past like ghosts in the retina.
Gu Chenzhou glanced hurriedly when rushing out of the mountain road, only to see that on the road leaning to the left, a white muck truck hit heavily on the right side of Wei Xiangjin’s car body, and the entire door of the army green off-road vehicle was dented! And a few hundred meters ahead on this road, another large vehicle of the same kind was rushing straight towards Wei Xiangjin’s driver’s seat from hundreds of meters away, with a speed of at least 150 mph!
The pointer of the dial turned to the bottom in an instant. Gu Chenzhou rushed to the side of the army green car before the opposite large vehicle hit the off-road vehicle, and then slammed the steering wheel to the left. The whole car suddenly swung to the left, and the rear hit heavily on the left front wheel of the muck truck!
The driver driving the car subconsciously turned the steering wheel to the right.
The violent collision and the force generated by the sudden braking slammed Gu Chenzhou heavily against the car door. After the numbness of the first moment, a sour stinging sensation like ants crawling and biting spread over half of Gu Chenzhou’s body. In the blink of an eye, he ignored it completely. Catching a glimpse of the opponent’s wheel turning from the right rearview mirror, he didn’t care about the severe skidding of his own car. He released the steering wheel with his right hand, reached under the seat, and pulled out a gun.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Three consecutive shots, one aimed at the cab, two aimed at the left front wheel less than a meter away from him.
The big truck immediately lost control, rushed to the right front for a distance, and then hit heavily on the green belt of the road.
Gu Chenzhou turned his head to look at the muck truck that rushed towards Wei Xiangjin earlier, only to find that the muck truck that was still pressing against the off-road vehicle saw that the situation was bad, had already backed out and driven a long way.
He ignored it, pushed open the car door forcefully, got out of the car and walked towards the big truck parked on the side of the road. The driver driving the car also woke up from the collision, got out of the car door facing inward, scrambling and crawling, and ran towards the dark Tianxiang Mountain in panic.
Gu Chenzhou stood in place and fired at the figure ahead, once, twice.
On the silent road, two gunshots spread far away. The man running into the mountain screamed and fell to the ground clutching his leg.
Gu Chenzhou then walked towards the man who had run more than ten meters away, didn’t speak, and kicked the man who was still struggling to stand up to the ground.
In the half-person-high weeds, the man was trembling so much that the sound of his teeth chattering could be heard: “The speed was too fast, I didn’t see, I didn’t mean to…”
“Really?” Gu Chenzhou smiled, stepped on the man’s shoulder, glanced at the opponent’s blood-covered left leg, and raised the gun to aim at his right arm.
“Bang!”
The sixth bullet.
He grabbed the collar of the man who kept screaming and cursing, almost paralyzed into a ball of mud from pain, dragged the other party back to the big truck, grabbed his hair and slammed his head against the pedal.
Once, twice, three times.
The screams suddenly rose, and the man struggled violently. Gu Chenzhou didn’t even lift his eyes, continued to grab the man’s hair, and slammed his head heavily against the pedal.
Four times, five times, six times.
With the number of impacts, the struggles and shouts became weak and then disappeared completely. Gu Chenzhou then let go of his hand, letting the man who was already confused slide onto the road.
Then, he turned and walked towards Wei Xiangjin’s car. He first looked carefully at the unconscious Wei Xiangjin in the car, and found that the other party indeed had no obvious injuries as he had glanced hurriedly before. The heart that had been beating violently since just now finally calmed down slowly.
The pain in his left arm climbed back into his mind.
Gu Chenzhou leaned against the off-road vehicle for a while, opened the car door from the open window, dared not move Wei Xiangjin, only felt the other party’s pulse, and found that it was still strong. Then he took out his mobile phone and dialed a number.
Just after two waiting tones, the phone was picked up, and a respectful male voice rang out: “Eldest Young Master, what’s the matter?”
“Find two ambulances to Tianxiang Mountain, Young Master Wei had a car accident. Bring a team of people to check the scene, not too many, I fired a gun.” Gu Chenzhou said.
The man who answered the phone broke out in a cold sweat: “I understand! Will definitely arrive within fifteen minutes!”
Gu Chenzhou hung up the phone directly, found a cigarette from Wei Xiangjin’s car, lit it and took a few puffs, then put it out, picked up the phone and dialed another number.
“Hello, Uncle Wei, it’s me, Chenzhou… Yes, I’m fine… Uncle Wei, listen to me, Xiangjin had a car accident… No, not too serious, I have already called an ambulance… Accident? Uncle Wei, I don’t think so, I think…”
He looked at the man lying not far ahead, unconscious, and a trace of sternness flashed in his eyes:
“I think this was premeditated.”
