Chapter 35#

He could not see Immortal Lord Chongwu’s expression clearly, only seeing Immortal Lord Chongwu lower his eyes, tracing his face with his fingers, “Do you know your mistake?”#

“She turned out to be that key…” The chief of the Priest Clan watched the vision in the sky, sitting upright in contemplation.

She gently closed her eyes, her breathing gradually stabilizing.

The “key” was the bond that united the Priest Clan; they shared in all honor and ruin, rising and falling together. Junti was the one chosen by the gods.

Now that she had been sacrificed, the gods were furious and would destroy the worldline, sealing away the souls of all living beings until the next worldline opened.

“Mother… what key?”

The little boy asked in confusion, his eyes wide and round.

The chief of the Priest Clan smiled slightly at him and looked around. Seeing the varied expressions of the Priest clan members in the room, she shook her head,

“Go to sleep, my children…”

Thunder rumbled continuously. The king and the priest had already turned to ashes, swept away by the wind, leaving not a trace behind.

Yu Lin fended off the gale, adding two or three layers of protective barriers to keep from being blown away.

After Junti was sacrificed, control of his body was no longer held by “his self in the illusion,” returning to him temporarily. He stiffly moved his hands, which had grown somewhat cold from the wind, and looked at all this in astonishment.

This was what happened after the sacrifice, something he had not seen in his past life—

The soft murmurs of Shanhai Sect’s Junti flashed back into his memory like fragments, fleeting in an instant.

“The entire Priest Clan perished… the water sources dried up… the Qinan Kingdom fell, turning into a barren wasteland…”

As the memories continued to pour in, Yu Lin stared blankly at everything before him, hesitant and confused.

It wasn’t like this…

The scene before him seemed capable of destroying everything; the places swept by the wind were razed to the ground, as if they had never existed.

Without a single human voice or cry for help, this world quietly vanished just like that.

…Whose memory was mistaken, after all?

“Senior Sister!! Senior Brother!!”

Yu Lin slowly woke up, someone’s voice screaming hoarsely in his ears.

Who was speaking?

He opened his eyes in a daze and tried to get up, only to find that he couldn’t move again.

Yu Xuan and Yu Yuan lay collapsed in a void secret realm, covered in blood.

“Yu Lin” stared at them with wide, bloodshot eyes, stumbling forward to throw himself before them, his hands tightly clutching the corners of their robes.

“Xiao Lin…”

Yu Yuan curled her lips slightly, stroking his cheek. “Senior Brother and Senior Sister… said we would protect you well.”

Hearing her words, panic rose in Yu Lin’s heart, and he couldn’t stop saying, “I was wrong, I was wrong.”

If I hadn’t thrown a tantrum, you wouldn’t have entered this demonic sect’s secret realm totally unprepared…

“We don’t blame you.”

Yu Yuan had little strength left; she could only pull his hand over and gently caress it. Her hands were naturally warm, but the intense pain added a trace of sweat to her palm.

She looked at Yu Lin reluctantly, her gaze gentle yet tinged with apology. “Our Xiao Lin will have to walk his future path alone.”

Yu Lin’s pupils dilated. Knowing what her words meant, he eagerly opened his mouth to protest, but he could only stutter, unable to utter a single coherent word.

Yu Yuan sighed heavily and turned her head slightly, using her blood-stained hand to hook her fingers with Yu Xuan’s. “Ah Xuan.”

Yu Xuan’s injuries were heavier than hers. At this moment, his eyes were tightly shut, his chest slightly rising and falling, and his consciousness was not even clear. He only let out an instinctive “Mm.”

Followed by a rustling sound, he rolled half his body over with great effort, nudged slightly, and hooked back onto Yu Yuan’s hand, lightly breathing in her scent as if longing for her presence.

It took Yu Xuan a while to open his eyes, and surprisingly, he comforted Yu Lin first. He said almost inaudibly, “Xiao Lin… don’t blame yourself. Even if we had to do it all over again… we would still choose to protect you.”

“But I don’t want to…” Yu Lin’s voice gradually choked up. “Master, Master will come! I’ll take you home, take you home…”

Hearing his childish words, Yu Xuan couldn’t help but chuckle softly. “We can’t wait that long…”

His tone grew lower, and his breathing became weaker.

“Ah Xuan,” Yu Yuan called again.

“Mm.”

“I love you.” She opened her eyes, looked at the gentle and caring lover beside her, curled her lips slightly, and spoke her last words.

The two of them could only hear each other’s faint breathing and feel each other’s warm body heat.

Hearing these words, Yu Xuan curled his lips and smiled sweetly, just like the day they confessed their love. His mind was dull, but he still instinctively responded to Yu Yuan, “Me too.”

Yu Lin lowered his head, hiding his expression in the shadows. After a moment, a tear fell to the ground with a patter.

The people in front of him had already stopped breathing.

After a while, a familiar voice came from behind him.

“Yu Lin.”

Yu Lin turned his head blankly and said in disbelief, “Master?”

In a panic, he pointed his hands and feet at his lifeless sectmates, gesturing incoherently for a long time, and couldn’t help but shed tears again. “Why did you only get here now…”

“Apologies.” Immortal Lord Chongwu made an apologetic expression, leaning in to take him into his embrace. “I arrived late.”

A familiar scent wafted into his nose, but Yu Lin’s body stiffened slightly as he belatedly sensed that something was wrong.

Master had always valued Senior Brother and Senior Sister highly. How could he be so indifferent, and how could he treat him like this?

Yu Lin squinted at his surroundings. Taking advantage of the moment he was being hugged back, he deftly bent half his body and twisted to the side, putting distance between them.

“…Yu Lin?”

Yu Lin looked coldly at the person before him. Having subconsciously let down his guard earlier, only now did he notice that the person’s expression was extremely stiff, as if wearing a mask.

“Immortal Lord Chongwu” stiffly curled the corners of his mouth and began to cackle. A ball of spiritual energy had gathered in his hand at some unknown point, and he hurled it toward him without hesitation.

The spiritual energy ball was extremely powerful. Yu Lin dodged in response, but he was still caught in the aftershock. The intense shockwave made him take two steps back involuntarily. His brow furrowed low as he watched the person before him warily.

“Why are you running?”

“Immortal Lord Chongwu’s” eyes curved into crescents. Just as he finished speaking, his shadow flickered slightly, and suddenly several figures split from it, surrounding Yu Lin and leaving him dazzled.

The various clones of “Immortal Lord Chongwu” launched different attacks, yet the strength behind their moves seemed like they were merely playing with him, only leaving a few shallow cuts on Yu Lin’s body.

Panting heavily, Yu Lin focused all his attention on raising his sword to ward off the attacks. The sharp blade swept through the air with lightning-fast flashes, dispersing several clones in just a couple of moves.

Suddenly, his entire body was enveloped by a shadow. His body stiffened instinctively, and he subconsciously raised his sword to block, only to have his shoulder held down. “Yu Lin.”

Yu Lin shuddered instinctively. Sidestepping, he slashed a blade light backward, staring warily at the person behind him. “Get lost! Get lost!!”

The person didn’t block either, taking the sword strike head-on. The sword light sliced a long, thin wound on the web of the person’s left hand, and blood dripped down with a patter.

The person waved his sleeve, and the clones of “Immortal Lord Chongwu” instantly dissolved into scattering specks of light and vanished.

“Yu Lin.”

Yu Lin raised his head tremblingly and met those golden eyes.

“What happened?”

Immortal Lord Chongwu walked straight to Yu Yuan and Yu Xuan, pinching the corners of their robes and pausing for a long time.

“I don’t know…” Yu Lin looked at his lifeless sectmates, and tears began to fall uncontrollably again.

His heart wrenched with guilt; his heart, which had already been torn to pieces by their parting, was reassembled only to be shredded once again. His voice went hoarse, and he couldn’t stop saying, “I don’t know… I’m sorry…”

Immortal Lord Chongwu paused for a moment and walked toward him. The shadow cast by his tall figure enveloped Yu Lin. Yu Lin’s shoulders shook continuously with his sobs, crying his heart out.

“Master, I don’t have Senior Sister and Second Senior Brother anymore.”

He was in a daze, all his strength completely drained, slumping into Immortal Lord Chongwu’s embrace like a helpless marionette.

He could not see Immortal Lord Chongwu’s expression clearly, only seeing Immortal Lord Chongwu lower his eyes, tracing his face with his fingers, “Do you know your mistake?”

Yu Lin obediently buried his face in his palm, choking out as if possessed, “I know my mistake… I know my mistake…”

Tears mingled with the wound on the web of the hand, and a faint scent of blood spread.
