Chapter 29#
The smile that had just risen on Yu Lin’s face froze. He reached out to grab Yu Yuan, but was sucked into the Demonic Gate Secret Realm a step ahead.#
The sky rumbled as thunder boomed, and lightning suddenly flashed with bright streaks, the sound deafening.
Right after, a gentle rain began to pitter-patter down from the sky, soaking the muddy ground.
Where is this?
As soon as Yu Lin opened his eyes, he found himself standing at the entrance of the Demonic Gate Secret Realm. He lifted his foot to walk forward, only to find that he couldn’t control his own body.
“Senior Sister! Senior Brother!”
He “saw” his body uncontrollably open its mouth, putting on a smile to go find Yu Yuan and Yu Xuan.
He was dressed in a light green, plain padded jacket, with a pale green jade pendant hanging from his waist. Looking like an exquisite young master out on an excursion, he seemed completely out of place among the crowd of cultivating cultivators who were there to train.
Despite the peaceful and happy atmosphere, Yu Lin’s throat tightened. His heart was filled with astonishment, and he unconsciously sounded the alarm in his mind.
He had actually returned to the moment before he entered the Demonic Gate Secret Realm in his past life!
“Xiao Lin.”
Yu Yuan was still whispering instructions to Yu Xuan up ahead, but upon hearing his call, she turned around to greet him.
His Senior Sister’s face came into view. Looking at her face as she drew closer, Yu Lin’s breath hitched.
Her eyes were filled with affection. She covered her mouth and chuckled softly, “You, really, why did you wear this outfit here? Don’t tell me you came here to play?”
Just like in his memories, he leaned in and threw his arms around Yu Yuan, hugging her tightly.
Burying his head in the crook of her neck, Yu Lin rubbed against her gently. “It’s fine as long as Senior Brother and Senior Sister are here! Just pretend I’m out on an excursion!”
His eyes curved into crescent moons as he smiled. Tilting his head on Yu Yuan’s shoulder, he blinked at Yu Xuan. “You guys will protect me, right, Senior Brother?”
Yu Xuan had been looking down, deep in thought. Hearing the call, he snapped back to reality and raised an eyebrow. “Naturally.”
But he still warned with a hint of worry, “Then don’t run around later. Stay obediently by our side.”
At this moment, Immortal Lord Chongwu walked over. He cast a flat glance at them and said, “Stay safe once you’re inside. Remember not to overreach. If anything happens, crush the Sound Transmission Pill.”
Yu Xuan nodded, “Understood, Master.”
The moment Yu Lin saw Immortal Lord Chongwu, his face fell, and he stared at him with cold eyes. When Immortal Lord Chongwu looked over, he petulantly averted his gaze and hid behind Yu Yuan.
Yu Yuan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Why are you angry with Master again? Stop doing that, it’s not good for you.”
Yu Lin muttered in a low voice, looking away. “I don’t care. Senior Sister, don’t speak up for him. He’s biased toward Yu Ling. I don’t want to talk to him anymore.”
Yu Yuan patted his head. “Our Xiao Lin has so much love, it’s fine to share a little with him.”
Looking at her peaceful eyes, Yu Lin couldn’t help but feel a surge of panic. He was worried that Yu Xuan and Yu Yuan’s love would also be shared away.
Because of this, anger flared inside him, and his nose grew runny with emotion. His tone carried a hint of grievance, “Why should I?! He already snatched away my Master and First Senior Brother!”
Is it only right for my love to be shared away?
He bit his lip aggrievedly and looked toward the direction of the Demonic Gate Secret Realm.
The Demonic Gate Secret Realm lacked many things, but opportunities were not among them. If he could find one or two, this trip would be worth it.
At this moment, the Demonic Gate Secret Realm had opened wide. Capable immortal lords repeatedly cautioned their prized disciples, handing over a bunch of magic treasures before letting them enter.
Still throwing a tantrum, Yu Lin suddenly let go of Yu Yuan’s hand and ran toward the Demonic Gate Secret Realm.
Yu Yuan’s hand was suddenly empty. Her pupils contracted, “Yu Lin!”
For a moment, she didn’t know what to do. She turned around and hurriedly told Yu Xuan, “Xiao Lin went inside, go call Master quickly!”
Then, she chased after Yu Lin toward the Demonic Gate Secret Realm.
If they care about me, they definitely won’t let me run away alone!
Thinking this, Yu Lin couldn’t help but turn his head, seeing Yu Yuan running toward him.
Looking at her anxious gaze, he suddenly felt much more at ease, and he unconsciously slowed his pace.
He cleared his throat twice, wanting to magnanimously say he wouldn’t hold a grudge anymore, but a powerful, irresistible suction force suddenly came from behind him.
The smile that had just risen on Yu Lin’s face froze. He reached out to grab Yu Yuan, but was sucked into the Demonic Gate Secret Realm a step ahead.
…
Immortal Lord Chongwu had noticed that Yu Lin was throwing a petulant fit, so he kept an eye on them from the corner of his eye. However, he didn’t expect Yu Lin to be so bold as to dare to go into the Demonic Gate Secret Realm alone.
Turning around to instruct Yu Ming to take good care of Yu Ling, he used a movement technique and dashed toward Yu Lin.
But he was still a step too late.
Seeing Yu Lin enter the Demonic Gate Secret Realm with her own eyes, Yu Yuan was extremely anxious, “Master! Xiao Lin, he…”
“Stay with Yu Xuan. I will go in to find him first.” Leaving behind these words, Immortal Lord Chongwu entered the Demonic Gate Secret Realm.
…
Yu Lin only felt a wave of dizziness. When he opened his eyes, he found himself already inside a space.
This space was entirely blue, emitting a deep blue, eerie light that grew darker as the space extended.
The edges of the entire space were blurred, making the end invisible.
He panicked. He turned around, but could not find the path he came from either.
“…Senior Sister!”
His voice carried tension, and a sense of unease surrounded him.
Yu Lin’s voice echoed in the space, returning to his ears through the reverberations.
It was a bit cold.
The floor of this space seemed to be made of ice. An extremely low temperature crept up from the ground, catching him off guard with a wave of coldness.
He couldn’t help but wrap his arms around himself, shivering as he blew warm breath and walked forward.
“Tap, tap.”
The sound of footsteps was clear and audible in the empty space. Quite a few people had entered the Demonic Gate Secret Realm, but he hadn’t seen anyone else along the way.
Senior Sister and the others have probably been separated and sent to other places as well.
As his mind wandered, a sudden, piercing glare shone before his eyes.
Yu Lin instinctively raised his hand to shield his eyes.
“Hiss, hiss.”
Immediately after, he broke out in goosebumps out of nowhere. A slimy sensation brushed against his ankle, wriggling continuously.
Yu Lin’s body stiffened slightly. His face turned pale as he loosened his hand slightly and cast his gaze downward.
He saw a completely white snake wrapped around his ankle.
His pupils contracted. He took two steps back and pulled up his hem to reveal the snake’s entire body.
The snake was as thick as an arm. It slowly crawled up Yu Lin’s ankle, flicking its tongue as it stared at him.
He drew his sword from behind his back and thrust it toward the snake.
Blood splurted. The snake, stabbed by Yu Lin’s sword, hissed as it struggled and bit Yu Lin’s leg.
“Hah…”
Cold venom entered his body, gradually spreading along his bloodstream. Yu Lin felt the venom was like water just scooped from an icy spring, bone-chillingly cold.
Shivering, he gasped repeatedly, feeling his legs go weak.
Breaking out in a cold sweat, Yu Lin gritted his teeth. Quick as lightning, he sliced off his hem with his sword and flicked the snake away.
After being flicked away, the snake continued to crawl slowly in his direction. After recovering for a moment, Yu Lin supported himself with his sword, staggered to turn around, and prepared to walk forward.
Turning his head, he stiffened again upon seeing the sight before him.
The blinding light from earlier was gradually fading. Countless completely white snakes were pouring out of the glowing magic array, crawling slowly on the ground.
So many snakes…
Yu Lin looked down at the snake horde crawling toward him. The bone-chilling sensation from earlier surged in his heart once more, and dread spread.
He raised his head. In the center of the glowing magic array from which the white snakes continuously poured, there was a sword slot, like a lock and key.
Surely, as long as he opened it, he would be able to get out.
But…
Looking at the white snakes surging toward him, he gulped instinctively, feeling terrified.
These surging white snakes were not as large as the previous one, but the sight of so many tiny snakes clustered together made him instinctively want to retreat.
Trembling slightly, he walked forward.
He bit his lip tightly, so hard that the corners of his eyes turned red. With trembling hands, he continuously unleashed sword light to force the snake horde back.
The sword light struck the ground, making a “crack” sound, yet the ground did not break.
There were simply too many white snakes. One or two crawled up his sword, while others wriggled up his ankles.
The closer he got to the glowing magic array, the less footing there was. He stumbled along, and was suddenly tripped—
With a thud, he fell straight onto the ground.
Supporting himself on the ground to sit up, his hand landed right on a white snake. He instinctively let go, falling back onto the ground.
The echoing “hissing” sounds reverberated in his ears, buzzing in his head like a curse. A writhing mass of snowy white covered the entire ground.
His sword had dropped ahead. With no obstacles left, the white snakes crawled toward Yu Lin en masse. The slimy touch disgusted Yu Lin; his entire body trembled, his mind on the verge of collapse.
“Get lost… get lost!!”
He screamed at the top of his lungs, his voice cracking and growing hoarse. Shivering, he tried to stand, but the strange sensations on his body made him feel incredibly nauseous.
“Hiss, hiss.”
The slimy sensation crawled up his arm and slipped into his collar. Over a dozen white snakes were crawling against his skin.
A white snake crawled onto his chest. His warm skin was suddenly hit with a freezing chill; he shuddered and let out a muffled groan.
“Get away… get away…”
Startled into action, his body tensed. He quickly scrambled to his feet and took two steps forward, but his ankle was caught by a snake’s tail.
Before he could stabilize his body, his ankle was pulled, causing him to crash down again. His elbow hit the ground with a loud “thud.”
With bloodshot eyes, Yu Lin gritted his teeth and looked back. The giant white snake he had stabbed earlier was tightly coiled around his ankle. Seeing him look back, it dragged him backward another two steps.
Powerless to resist, his entire body was dragged backward.
He dug his fingertips desperately into the ground, struggling forward two steps to reach for the sharp sword right before him. He kicked back hard with his right foot, taking advantage of the moment the white snake was kicked to surge forward.
He reached the sword.
Yu Lin’s eyes were bloodshot. Pushed to the peak of his rage, the moment the sword was in his hand, he slashed wildly like a madman. In an instant, several sword lights struck the ground one after another, kicking up a wave of icy air!
Seeing the giant white snake forced back by the sword lights, he quickened his pace and ran toward the glowing magic array.
He struggled forward through the horde of white snakes. Standing before the “lock,” he gritted his teeth, plunged his sword into the “keyhole,” and turned it to the right.
The slow sound of turning gears rang out. A ring of light appeared around the magic array, filling up as the gears turned.
White snakes pouring from the magic array crawled up his sword and onto his arm.
Seeing the magic array activated, Yu Lin let go of the sword. To his dismay, the rotating gears stopped the moment he let go!
Shivering, Yu Lin cursed furiously in his heart as he closed his eyes and gripped the hilt again.
At a time like this, every second felt like a year. He swallowed hard, finding the sound of the turning gears agonizingly slow.
“Rumble!”
Who knows how much time had passed, but the gears finally finished turning, and the magic array slowly opened.
Joy rose in his heart as he prepared to pull out the sword and enter the magic array. However, he heard the “hissing” sound in his ears growing louder and louder.
Without him realizing when, that giant snake had crawled up his spine and wrapped itself around Yu Lin’s neck.
Yu Lin couldn’t help but tense his jaw. In the next second, the giant snake’s body tightened abruptly, strangling Yu Lin’s neck.
“Hah…”
Gasping softly for air, Yu Lin pulled at the white snake’s slippery body with both hands, struggling continuously. But then he heard another “hiss,” followed by a sudden “buzz” in his head, which instantly went blank.
The white snake had bitten him on the side of his neck.
The side of the neck was far more sensitive than the ankle. A surge of coldness seemed to shoot up from his heels, making him shudder all over, his breathing becoming labored.
His gaze turned vacant and dazed for a brief moment. His head spun continuously, and his trembling fingertips clawed at the air twice before he managed to grip the hilt of the sword again.
Wheezing rapidly, Yu Lin pulled out the sword and staggered two steps into the wide-open magic array.
